The journey to net zero is full of twists and turns, and it’s bringing an influx of new roles and skills. Talent Acquisition teams are already feeling the heat, and we’re just getting started. As organisations in this sector face a challenging skills landscape, TA professionals will need to continue finding ways to do more with less—and stay agile for the long haul.
People Solutions & TA Project Lead, Talent Intelligence, Principal Consultant, Executive Talent > Talent Engagement & Mobility (TEaM)
I recently listened to the BMI Country Risk & Industry Analysis webinar on Australia’s Energy Transition – A path to net Zero. Key highlights include: Australia critical minerals - Lithium, Nickel, Copper in production & refining. Positioning Australia as a top destination for mining investment. Power & Renewables: ☛ Re Electricity consumption - Australia is the 20th largest power market in the world using 250 terawatt hours per year = 2% of APAC’s total consumption ☛ Australia is the 12% largest electricity producer from coal dropping to 14% by 2030 behind Poland, Malaysia, Taiwan & Philippines ☛ Re Non hydro power renewables - Australia is the 10th largest consumer by end of 2024 and will stay here to 2030 out of 120 markets globally There are a lot of government policies: ☛ rebates for consumers ☛ solar power & electric vehicles ☛ retirement of coal plants and a shift to renewables ☛ building manufacturing facilities for solar & battery & developing the green hydrogen industry ☛ reforming the carbon credit unit scheme & engaging with the pacific and international partners to advance climate and energy transition partnerships Looking to the future: ☛ A focus on the decommissioning of coal plants between 2023 – 2040 across Australia ☛ Coal makes up 60% of APAC power mixes in 2023 – AU is higher than Japan & South Korea; by 2033 in APAC the focus of Australia reducing to 15% (45% in 2023) - replaced by non hydro renewables ☛ old coal sites – repurposed as battery storage and wind power sites ☛ Renewables growing strongly – solar & wind; offshore wind not included as there is still regulation to be finalised before key construction takes place – concern is intermittence of these power sources hence coal still likely around for the next 10yrs ☛ Solar and wind largest share of investment & production pipeline followed by storage of this power source What does this mean for TA – increase in hiring in the energy space & the need to get infront of this skills shortage. We should focus on re-skilling and up-skilling from the coal industry into solar and battery to add to this talent pool. SAVE YOUR SEAT 🏃♀️ and listen to experts Gareth Flynn and Sandra Loughlin, PhD discuss how you can start your journey into becoming a #Skillsbased organisation. Seat are limited so book now! Gloat
Talent & workforce expert - strategy, leadership, operating model, technology, experience | Skills & Skills-based organisations researcher | Writer | Speaker | Founder & CEO, TQSolutions
A reminder that our friends at Gloat are hosting a series of #skillspowered webinars and this week it is Sandra Loughlin, PhD from EPAM Systems and myself unpacking what it takes to move to a #skillsbased organisation. I have said it before, but Epam is the most advanced skills centric organisation in the world (30 years in) and Sandra is acting as a skills 'north-star' and a beacon of hope for others who are on the journey and needing to transform their organisations. Sandra will detail what is possible with Skills at the centre of the organisation and we will both discuss how others could start their journey. I will lean heavily on my research this year and share some of the examples I have seen along the way from organisations such as Telstra, Ericsson, MetLife, Woolworths Group, NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Booking.com and Schneider Electric to name a few. If you haven't registered yet, hop on and secure your spot today. You will absolutely want to hear from Sandra and better understand what a genuinely skills-centric organisation looks like. #skills #talentmanagement #futureofwork #artofthepossible https://lnkd.in/gfwzJCD6
