  • Meet Daryl. Daryl is the Head of the Salvation Army Emergency Services (SAES), a team of Salvos and volunteers across the country who help to support thousands of first responders and survivors of natural disasters. Daryl’s role involves ensuring that SAES is accountable to communities and people affected by disasters by developing the department and building the capacity of the team. Daryl's commitment extends to ensuring that people have access to immediate, essential life-sustaining support that is continually adapted and improved based on feedback and learning. Our SAES teams are currently on the lookout for 1000 volunteers ahead of this year’s natural disaster season. As Daryl explains, it's a role that not only makes a huge difference to people doing it tough, but it’s also extremely rewarding. “It gives people the opportunity to give back at a time when communities are shattered, often unexpectedly. When people see The Salvation Army, they see a place of friendship and hope, and that is what you are able to bring to people as a volunteer with us,” he said. • The Salvation Army Australia is pleased to announce that we have recently joined the Issara Institute as their first not-for-profit Strategic Partner, marking an important change in how we will monitor modern slavery in our supply chains. Issara, an independent NGO, has proven systems that are built with and for workers to assume a more active role in improving working conditions and preventing exploitation. While great progress has been made since the Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth), evidence shows the main strategies targeting modern slavery in supply chains are not succeeding in finding it. Modern slavery cannot be addressed if it never comes to light and because there are so many barriers to identification, detection often relies on workers coming forward. Our partnership with Issara will help us improve detection of rights violations and link with a network of partners to help remediate these issues in a meaningful and sustainable way. #TheSalvationArmy #Salvos #BelieveInGood #ModernSlavery

  • Celebrating 144 years of the Salvos in Australia! On this day in 1880, the first Salvation Army meeting in Australia took place from the back of a greengrocer's cart in Adelaide's Botanic Park. Ever since, our incredible teams on the ground have been helping people at their point of need, fighting hardship and injustice and providing services including emergency relief and community programs that truly transform lives. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our incredible teams, volunteers and supporters who make it all possible. #TheSalvationArmy #Salvos #BelieveInGood

  • As we celebrate Include a Charity Week, we’re highlighting the work of our Gifts in Wills teams across the country. The Gift in Wills team plays a vital role in supporting The Salvation Army’s mission by encouraging people to consider leaving a gift in their will. One way we do this is through our Community Wills Days, where we help make the process of writing a will more accessible to everyone. At these local events, generous solicitors prepare simple Wills in return for a contribution to The Salvation Army. These events provide a way to make sure community members have a legally valid and up to date Will which reflects their wishes, whilst also supporting Australians in need. • At The Salvation Army we’re thankful for the support from our partnership with Woolworths Group and their STAND (Supporting Those Affected by Natural Disasters) program. STAND is a key initiative of the Woolworths Group Foundation a charity established to support communities impacted by natural disasters. For many years Woolworths Group and their generous customers have helped our local teams support Australians impacted by natural disaster. Recently the program helped fund state-of-the-art catering trucks that are strategically deployed during times of disaster and emergency, allowing our Salvation Army Emergency Services (SAES) teams to feed first responders. #TheSalvationArmy #Woolworths

  • The Salvation Army recently made a significant impact at Genesys Xperience Sydney as the event Giveback partner. A Fireside Panel Chat featured Milad Kruze, Executive General Manager of Information Technology, and Vaughan Olliffe, National Doorways Operations Manager. They both shared insights on how Genesys Cloud, the AI-powered experience orchestration platform has revolutionised the Salvos call centre experience for both the community members seeking assistance and the Salvos personnel handling the increasing call volume amidst the cost-of-living crisis. Another highlight was the basketball hoop-shooting challenge, where for every 10 hoops scored, Genesys pledged to donate a meal to The Salvation Army. The activity resulted in a total of $11,835 raised, which will provide an incredible 1185 meals for those in need. Milad Kruze expressed his gratitude and enthusiasm about the partnership, saying, "The Genesys Cloud platform continues to enable improved and more equitable access to The Salvation Army’s services for Australians facing a range of hardships as well as those fortunate enough to be able to contribute to the many causes of the Salvos. We value our partnership with Genesys and we look forward to continuing to deliver empathy at scale for our person-centred organisation." #TheSalvationArmy #BelieveInGood
