In a new episode of Lowy Institute Conversations, Lydia Khalil, Herve Lemahieu and Sam Roggeveen discuss what a Trump or Harris victory would mean for the US and its relationships with allies and adversaries. Drawing on two recently published Lowy Institute interactive features, in which Institute experts assess the policies, outlooks and approach to the world of the candidates, they unpack what two very different yet similarly enigmatic candidates would bring to the world stage. 🎧 Listen now: https://lnkd.in/gXuCTm6K

In a new special feature, seven Lowy Institute scholars analyse how Kamala Harris might approach foreign, economic and defence policymaking as president. The experts' assessments vary depending on the region and issues they cover. A new Lowy Institute poll reveals 73% of Australians would prefer Kamala Harris to become president of the United States, while just 22% say they would prefer Donald Trump to return to the White House. Six months ago, when the Lowy Institute Poll was fielded, 68% of Australians said they would prefer President Joe Biden to be re-elected in the upcoming election, while nearly one in three (29%) said they would prefer to see Donald Trump elected. Harris has gained five points over Biden’s result in the new polling, while Trump slid seven points when pitted against Harris. This represents a clear change in the trajectory of Australian attitudes towards the presidential candidates. Nevertheless, Trump continues to garner more Australian support than any other Republican nominee in the history of this Poll. 👇 Explore the full Poll data. https://lnkd.in/gUPbX2Cm
