2023 Grantee Spotlight: The Melbourne Holocaust Museum, an institution dedicated to remembrance and education, is harnessing immersive technology to bring the stories and voices of Holocaust survivors to life. With Yom Kippur just around the corner, we want to highlight one of our grantees, The Melbourne Holocaust Museum. In 2023, MHM launched 'In the Footsteps', an audio-visual experience that, coupled with the Museum's 'Everybody Had a Name' exhibition, offers visitors the chance to understand and engage with the personal account of one of six Holocaust survivors. Assisted by a $50,000 grant from the Telematics Trust, In the Footsteps is a transformative layer that adds additional insight into these moving stories. Flying Fox is an organisation helping build an inclusive society by connecting people living with a disability and the wider community through sleepaway camps, dinner parties, games nights and other fun-filled activities. But this couldn't be done without Flying Fox's team of warm, energetic and passionate volunteers. It's these volunteers that now have access to a revolutionary online training program which, created with the help of a $45,000 Telematics Trust grant, is ensuring volunteers receive high-quality, consistent and accessible training support. When asked about the success of the program, Dean Cohen, Flying Fox's CEO, said, “the support from the Telematics Trust has provided Flying Fox with an opportunity to build our technology solutions that have improved our training dramatically. We train young adults to support people with disability on fun and social sleep-away camps. The training is expansive and detailed, and needs to be conveyed in a comprehensive and professional manner. The Telematics Trust has ensured that Flying Fox can deliver on that requirement and to deliver world-class training for our volunteers." Renowned for championing the social inclusion of deaf and hard of hearing children and young people, Deaf Children Australia is launching groundbreaking eLearning resources that will support students looking to gain important work experience. Thanks to a $50,000 grant from Telematics, DCA engaged with teachers, employers and students alike to create purpose-built online resources that blend specialised learning materials with topnotch design and compelling graphics. By equipping deaf and hard of hearing young people with the knowledge and skills they need, DCA is easing their transition to meaningful employment and further training opportunities. Ele Raimondi, DCA’s Innovation and Projects Manager, said: 'Telematics Trust shares our belief that technology can help ensure deaf children can access the same opportunities as their hearing peers, regardless of where they live, and the resources this grant is helping us to produce will bridge a current gap, and ultimately improve the employment prospects for deaf and hard of hearing young people when they finish school.'
