We're currently accepting expressions of interest for this year's remaining volume of carbon credits from Arnhem Land Fire Abatement NT (ALFA NT) in Australia, and for the upcoming issuance of credits from the April Salumei Community Rainforest Conservation Project in Papua New Guinea. This is a unique opportunity to secure high-quality carbon offsets that offer substantial, long-term impacts, not only addressing climate action but also contributing to education, biodiversity protection, and local employment. Arnhem Land Fire Abatement (ALFA) invests in over 300 Traditional Owner jobs in Arnhem Land deploying traditional fire management practices. And the April Community Rainforest Conservation Project sustainably manages over 600,000 hectares (with a crediting area of 200,000 hectares) of globally significant virgin rainforest that was originally planned to be logged, and protects vital habitat for many endangered animals, including the tree kangaroo, palm cockatoo, the bird of paradise and the southern crowned pigeon. Further exciting news in the development of Asian carbon markets with Vietnam set to allow 10% offsetting in its Emissions Trading Scheme which is to pilot from 2025. Announcements were also made to signal the development of a Vietnamese trading exchange in 2025. Similar to markets like Singapore, this will see corporations under the carbon market be allowed to source a proportion of their obligations from carbon projects to be defined under the scheme. It emphasises the important role carbon credits play side-by-side with direct emission reduction efforts as organisations transition in-line with national emissions reduction targets. This can catalyse new sources of carbon finance to flow off the back of demand for credits from the 200 enterprises under the proposed Vietnamese ETS, including thermal power, steel, and cement sectors. Our Manager of Corporate Partnerships and Digital Solutions, Rebecca Heard, recently returned from a trip to Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory where entirely Aboriginal-owned, not-for-profit carbon business, Arnhem Land Fire Abatement (ALFA), supports local Aboriginal ranger groups to operate savanna fire management projects. We have officially commenced cookstove distribution as part of our Papua New Guniea Improved Cookstoves project, "Healthier Homes, Healthier Forests"🎉 We have now successfully distributed 5,000 improved cookstoves to registered households across the Southern Highlands Province of PNG. Our cookstove distribution centre has become somewhat of a community hub over the past week. We've seen locals set up shop to sell and trade goods like peanuts, drinks, popcorn and fry bread, fostering a greater sense of community, and allowing everyone to head home with more than their cookstove. Household registration also continues across the Province, with over 14,000 households now registered, aiming for the successful distribution of 20,000 cookstoves during this phase of the project.
