Young Women in Aerospace & Defence (YWiAD) Program | September 23 - 26, 2024 This week, we had the privilege of welcoming our latest YWiAD cohort to RMIT Bundoora West, with students from across Melbourne and rural Victoria. Under the expert guidance of Associate Professor, Matthew Marino and his dedicated team, the students embarked on an exciting journey into the world of aerospace and defence. Day one, kicked off with hands-on drone flying sessions, where students leveraged their Python skills to code flight paths. They explored the engineering lab, witnessing RMIT’s latest projects and achievements, including fabricating a carbon fibre wing from scratch. Day two, saw the group dive deeper into advanced drone commands and experience the thrill of the wind tunnel in action. Day three, offered further refinement of drone skills, followed by an engaging STEM career talk with YWiAD founder Jo Zimpel Ph.D., culminating in a Q&A session. The day wrapped up with practical drone flying at the RMIT basketball courts, where the students put their knowledge to the test. A special session with Fusion introduced them to their latest technology, sparking even more curiosity. Day four, the final day, featured insightful talks from YWiAD partners, including SYPAQ Systems, Nova Systems Australia and New Zealand, and MEMKO. To cap off the program, students competed in a 7-step drone obstacle course challenge designed by Matthew Marino—an exciting and fitting conclusion to an incredible week. We’re immensely proud of this talented cohort and look forward to seeing their bright futures in STEM. A big thank you, to our partners, Fusion Engineering Consulting Services, SYPAQ Systems, Nova Systems and Memko. An extended thank you also goes to the RMIT engineering students who volunteered to help out for the September YWiAD. Pictured are a progression of photos taken over the course of the program.

This is the 2nd coolest #UAS thing I saw at #LandForces24 #AID24, from SYPAQ Systems. Sure, its 'another' cool MILSPEC MRUAS, but this is a 🇦🇺 sovereign effort, it's the goods, it's flying and being exported, well ahead of the #ASCA #UAS challenge! SYPAQ Systems is pleased to announce the release of Corvo Alto, the latest addition to our Corvo family of Small Unmanned Aerial Systems (SUAS). The Corvo Alto quad-rotor SUAS, with its secure data and communications controls, is ready to meet sovereign aerial surveillance needs for military, law enforcement and civil purposes.   “Corvo Alto is an exciting product that is able to provide a secure and capable SUAS for many industries and leverages our established sovereign design, manufacture and support for military-grade SUAS in Australia” stated SYPAQ CEO Amanda Holt. “With common secure technologies to other SUAS in our portfolio such as the successful Precision Payload Delivery System (PPDS), ‘the famous cardboard drone’, and recently announced Corvo X delivered under DEF129, we are able to provide confidence to our customers that what they are operating is world class, affordable and secure.”     “As a veteran-owned company, SYPAQ’s ability to continue to contribute to the safety and effectiveness of capability to the Australian Defence Force and also wider commercial markets is really important to us. And now with Corvo Alto we can continue to develop and deliver products that meet requirements not only for the ADF but also those commercial customers. It’s incredibly exciting to see Corvo Alto’s potential across these markets.”   Development of the Corvo Alto SUAS is underpinned by SYPAQ’s Defence Autonomy Centre of Excellence, a dedicated site in Victoria for developing sovereign autonomous capabilities for the Australian Defence Force. This site also houses SYPAQ’s successful manufacturing facilities with an extensive record of producing, integrating and testing military-grade autonomous systems.   At over 80% Australian content, the Corvo Alto SUAS compliments SYPAQ’s other SUAS products such as Corvo X and Corvo PPDS, by offering both significant sovereign supply chain and sovereign technical support solutions.

SYPAQ Systems was recently nominated at the ADF Reserves and Employer Support Awards held on 22 Aug '24.   This year, SYPAQ was nominated by SQNLDR Paul Warner who recently deployed to Exercise Pitch Black where he provided support to the A4 cell of the Task Unit Headquarters. “SYPAQ is very supportive when I take time to serve in Defence," said SQNLDR Warner.   “At SYPAQ, I am in a fortunate position to be working at the leading edge of critical capabilities, providing technical and professional support to the development and acquisition lifecycle. My time in Defence adds value, both to Air Force and to SYPAQ on my return."    Accepting the nomination was SYPAQ’s founder, George Vicino, stating that “it was great to see such a large number of reservists engaged in Industry. As a Defence veteran, I am proud of our engagement with veterans and ADF Reservists in our company.”   Presenting the award, with SYPAQ’s highly successful CORVO Autonomous Systems PPDS (a.k.a "Cardboard Drone") in the foreground, MAJGEN Douglas Laidlaw AM, CSC thanked SYPAQ for supporting reservists, noting the importance of Australian sovereign Defence industry. #AusAirForce #AusArmy #AusNavy #Defence #YourADF
