Seeing double 👀 Tunnel boring machines (TBMs) Beatrice and Daphne have reached the end of their 18-month journey carving out the 11-kilometre tunnel from The Bays to Sydney Olympic Park. The two TBMs tunnelled side-by-side, breaking through at Sydney Olympic Park metro site on the same day! The breakthrough coincides with another major milestone for Sydney Metro West as planning approval on a new metro-oriented town centre above the future Sydney Olympic Park metro station has been received, creating more than 300 new residential dwellings with direct access to fast and reliable metro services. Milestone alert 🚨 All excavation for the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport tunnelling project from St Marys to Bradfield is officially complete! This included: ◾ 9.8 kilometres of twin tunnels dug by tunnel boring machines Eileen, Marlene, Catherine and Peggy ◾ Four stub tunnels dug by road headers ◾ 39 cross passages dug by remote control excavators ◾ Excavation of five station boxes, two services facility shafts and one temporary tunnelling support shaft Over 3,630,000 tonnes of material was excavated to build these structures. That’s a whopping 581 Olympic-sized swimming pools. Well done to the team on this massive achievement!

Did you know the artwork adorning the walls at Barangaroo Station is a tribute to the area's natural landscape?    Created by artist Khaled Sabsabi, ‘In Time we Shall’ features the native tree species used in the Barangaroo headland and their significance in continuous Aboriginal cultural life.   Seven giant copper and mild steel trees ( 5m and 3m in diameter) emerge from the sandstone wall of the eastern concourse. Four copper bands circle around the columns featuring the Gadigal names of these trees.   The artist worked closely with Aboriginal communities to create this artwork and reflect the importance of trees in local culture. Trees feature in legends across many cultures, maintaining their mystique throughout time and place, including being called “the tree of life” and “the tree of knowledge”.

Can’t go around it, can’t go through it… we had to go above it! Greater Sydney’s new metro line has been constructed over the Warragamba Pipelines, a task that required a superior level of engineering and 24 months of planning with our friends at @WaterNSW. Watch how it happened 👇 The 23-kilometre Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport alignment will take passengers belowground through tunnels, above ground on viaducts and bridges and includes sections at ground level. This variation allows the metro to integrate with existing critical infrastructure in the area like the pipelines and Luddenham Road. For more: https://lnkd.in/ga7MrQBj

Now this is a behind-the-scenes look 👀 Take a look inside TBM Daphne as she installs the 3.8 tonne concrete segments that line one of the two tunnels between The Bays and Sydney Olympic Park. When she’s finished, TBM Daphne would have installed around 36,270 segments of the more than 150,000 segments for the 24-kilometre Sydney Metro West line. Sydney Metro hosted the annual face-to-face Aboriginal Business Forum (ABF) at Penrith Panthers Stadium last month. The event, also supported by Transport for NSW, provided opportunities to facilitate engagement between our delivery partners, operator, supply chain representatives, business intermediaries and local Aboriginal businesses through a unique business match making session.    This session involved over 40 Recognised Aboriginal Businesses pitching their businesses capabilities to the procurement and supply chain opportunities directly with procurement decision makers from our delivery partners' commercial teams.    The Aboriginal Business Forum supports Metro’s broader workforce development and industry participation commitments and will continue to provide engagement opportunities and supply chain collaboration to support the upcoming work packages across our projects. To date, Sydney Metro has engaged 528 Recognised Aboriginal Businesses across our projects.   For more info: https://lnkd.in/dkt446pw

Say g’day to Roscoe 👋 He’s hard to miss at Waterloo Station, with his 9.7 metre x 9.7 metre portrait centre stage on the eastern wall of the station concourse.   This image, one of three elements that makes up the Footprints on Gadigal Nura public art at the station, took 10 days to install and consists of 46 individual custom made panels.   Roscoe is a young dancer from Brolga Dance Academy and local to the Waterloo area. His portrait features in one of the station’s three artworks by Aboriginal artist Nicole Monks and is a collaboration between mili mili Public Art, photographer A. Professor Wayne Quilliam and Jodie Choolburra-Welsh of Brolga Dance Academy, and dancers Liara, Taneisha, Jack, Zaharlia, Madison, Allira, Aasha, Bobby, Mirii, Tyra, Wirrindah, Blossom and Diamond.   Check out the timelapse of this massive art installation 👇
