Wherever we look, the talk about waste and pollution is trying to be solved. However it seems we forget to take a few steps back further and look at the source of the waste and pollution itself. Over manufacturing, over production, then waste and pollution. To fill shelves or to be in stock so that everything is available...now. The need to fill minimum order quantities with manufacturers who supply to the world makes buyers procurer more than is needed, hoping to sell off extra units that aren't needed in some daydream scenario. If the UN is pushing to stop fossil-fuel production by 2050 then what does it mean for the machines that are over producing and the procurers who are over procruring? Einsten famously said 'Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. ' How are we heading to the end of 2024 but still thinking like the Industrial Revolution is our benchmark of success? Remember when nations closed down within months of Covid and we saw wildlife return to areas that hadn't been there for years? Press stop on the over production but include the manufacturers in the capabilities they have in the circular economy of repair and maintenance. From a consumer level instead of Black Friday, what if we had Green Wednesday where nothing was bought but repaired, swapped or cleaned up for someone else to use? From a commercial level, what if we got the stakeholders in one room for a project or a season and understood what was necessary first before placing an order? What if we incentivised manufactuers that instead of overmaking to fill shelves, you could invest in better quality materials tracked in a material circular economy that could be reused and remanufactured over and over again. Sustainability in Action is the topic of the upcoming UN Global Compact event in Sydney 30-31st October. CDT has sponsored the Sustainable Development Goal 12 believing this is the most important goal in our work with the interiors and fit out sector. #strategy #action # unglobalcompact #sdg12 #overproduction #overconsumption #waste #pollution #moqs #materials #circulareconomy #enoughnow #time #designoutwaste

Karie sharing her learnings with interior designers. #circulareconomy #interiors #upskill #training #solutions
It has been a very busy and inspiring week and will continue to be so. Lovely to have been asked to share my thoughts in #InteriorsAU on the circular economy and what that means for interior designers in their training and the need to upskill.

Today is SDG Flag Day 2024 to remind those around us about the 17 sustainable development goals and the work we need to do within Australia to reach a sustainable future. As we don't have a physical office and are scattered around the country, CDT is sharing an iconic piece of architecture similar to sails and flags. According to the SDG Report Australia is on track to achieve approx. 51% of the SDG targets by 2030 - ranking us 37 out of 166 countries. Hopefully our national competitive spirit will start to take over in the race to 2030. #togetherforthesdgs #sdg12 #sdg8 #sdg9 #sdg4 #circulareconomy #2030 #change #environment #social #governance

Currently, there are over 25,000 participants around the world across 167 countries. CDT is part of the Australian network. Alongside this commitment we also adhere to the following Sustainable Development Goals 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production, 9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth and now with our training sessions SDG 4 Quality Education.
