Offshore wind has the potential to reshape our energy system while creating new jobs, opportunities and investment in regional communities. Yesterday the Federal Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen MP and Senator Dr. Jess Walsh launched the Gippsland Offshore Wind Alliance (GOWA) in Gippsland. Committee for Gippsland and Gippsland Climate Change Network Inc. are leading the Alliance, which provides a local platform for collaborative action to create an offshore wind industry that benefits the region. It brings together community and regional leaders, councils, government agencies, education and training providers and offshore wind licence holders, to work with local communities, maximise job and supplier opportunities, and create a positive legacy. We take our responsibility as an industry leader seriously. As an Alliance member we’ll continue to advocate for the development of Australia’s offshore wind industry and the benefits it will bring to regional communities – starting with Gippsland. We’re looking forward to seeing the Alliance progress as we work towards building a new industry for Australia. #OffshoreWind #Gippsland #community #benefit #Australia #collaboration

Meet James Perry, our Wind Turbine Package Senior Manager. Born in Quirindi in NSW, James is no stranger to offshore wind, having worked in Europe for 15 years supporting the installation of turbines for three projects and supporting the development of several others. Over this time James came to admire the advancements in the technology associated with offshore wind turbines. Now back home, James is applying what he’s seen and learned in Europe to contribute Australia's emerging offshore wind industry. "It’s exciting to be back home and part of growing this industry from the very beginning. We have great conditions to build these projects here and a committed and determined team, which are great foundations for success.” When not obsessing over wind turbines, James enjoys spending his free time with his kids and 'pottering' around the house doing DIY jobs. #OffshoreWind #team #Engineer #Australia #WindTurbines

Meet Myles Daniel, our Chief Technical Development Officer responsible for leading Star of the South’s planning and development. Myles started his career in the coal and oil and gas industries. Seeing change on the horizon and motivated by a desire to make a positive difference, he was drawn to the exciting offshore wind industry. That was over a decade ago. Since then, he’s completed offshore wind projects in Denmark, the UK and USA and returned home to Australia in 2022 to join the Star of the South team. "There has been no turning back since joining the offshore wind industry as it got going in Europe. The projects are exciting and it has been excellent to see the foundations of an offshore wind industry begin here in Australia over the last few years”, Myles said. “Being a new industry, offshore wind will benefit from the experience of long-term skilled workers to train, skill-up and mentor the next generation of Gippsland energy workers”. #OffshoreWind #StaroftheSouth #Engineering #Australia
