Love barista coffee ☕ and delicious food? Our Katherine Training Hub was the place to be this week! Kieran from GTNT was back in Katherine to train our Barunga and Wugularr ladies, along with some school students, in the art of being a barista. They also completed a Safe Food Handling certification and made yummy food to share. Kukimbat Gudwan Daga is back and this time, the men are involved! We're delighted to have 14 men from the Wugularr, Barunga and Binjari communities enrolled in this 12-week certification 😄 This week they are focusing on workplace and kitchen hygiene, and learning how to make a killer coffee ☕ with Barista training! Over the course of the program, both our men's and women's groups will learn hospitality, food service, and café and restaurant management skills! Responsible for delivering essential services across the Territory, our team is made up of people with a wide range of skills - we're not all involved in the technical power and water side of things! We need to fill a variety of roles to do what we do. Roles such as that held by Dylan Catayong. Dylan is a goods procurement trainee. This means he's involved in finding, selecting and buying a huge range of items we need to carry out our operations. His day might include contract management, supplier negotiations and making sure deliveries are made on time and within budget. Dylan is undertaking a Certificate III in Business. He joined us through GTNT Group. 'Fortunately, my high school sent out letters about GTNT and the various opportunities they had, and I was lucky to get this position through them,' he said. It's not possible to deliver essential services to thousands of people across more than a million square kilometres without plenty of support! That support comes from our team of people carrying out a huge variety of roles, people like Nikiah Firley. Nikiah is part of the dedicated crew that looks after our buildings and other assets. They make sure our spaces function properly and are fit to house our team safely. With buildings and assets in multiple locations across the Territory, this is an epic job! Nikiah is enjoying the opportunities that being part of our team has given her. “At the end of Year 11, I had completed both my Certificate I and III in Business, and decided to start looking for a job that would offer me a chance to upskill my knowledge,” Nikiah says. “I saw Power and Water had multiple job opportunities through GTNT Group, and also offered the chance to complete my Certificate IV in Business, which I am currently studying.
