Today is R U OK? Day. The annual event encourages regular conversations and to ask 'R U OK?' any day because a conversation could change a life. Our teams at Booragul and Warabrook dressed up in yellow and enjoyed a number of activities to support this important initiative. Here at Newcastle Anglican, we want to empower our people to meaningfully connect with each other. "This shouldn't just be a focus today; fostering a culture of care and support needs to happen every day," Diocesan Chief Executive John Barriga said. "Let's make it a regular practice to check in with our colleagues, clients, family and teams. A small conversation can make a big difference." This Sunday will mark the start of NAIDOC Week (7-14 July). Celebrations are being organised across the country to acknowledge the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. An Ecumenical prayer service is taking place at Christ Church Cathedral from 1.45pm. The service will include traditional dancers from Manning Valley Anglican College, while prayers and songs will be focused on Aboriginal themes. There are many other events and activities throughout the week. See what’s happening in our flyer below.

Meet Kayla, one of the inspirational young people we’re proud to support at Samaritans Student Accommodation. Kayla became homeless when she was 15 years old and came to live in a safe environment at our accommodation in Wickham. She is now studying social work at university and working casually at a Samaritans refuge. Samaritans can only provide this essential service with the support of our generous community. Donate today to support resilient young people like Kayla.

Today is World Environment Day. It's the United Nations flagship day for encouraging global awareness and action to protect the environment. This year's World Environment Day campaign focuses on land restoration, desertification and drought resilience under the slogan “Our land. Our future. We are #GenerationRestoration.” Newcastle Anglican takes seriously its role in protecting and caring for Earth, our planet and home. Many diocesan entities have adopted policies and practices to reduce harm, waste or pollution. This includes fossil fuel investment divestment, eliminating disposable cups at morning tea, and joining local environment groups in bush care, land care, community gardens and op shops to combat fast fashion.
