  • It was fantastic to be joined by more than 150 community members, donors, partners and supporters at our extended AGM in Mount Gambier this month. 🤝 🎤 As part of the event, we were delighted to have SA Ambulance Service’s Daniel Forrest and Mount Gambier Hospital’s Sally Neumann join our own Shaun Courtney and Chantelle King for a panel discussion, giving insight into how our teams work together to deliver care. ✈️ The day also included an emotional aircraft dedication in memory of the late ‘Glenda’, a special benefactor from the local region — the story behind this dedication will be shared soon. Thank you to our volunteer RFDS Board directors, Mount Gambier RFDS Support Group, health, corporate and community partners, the local businesses who supported the event and everyone who joined us on the day. 💙 📲 More: https://lnkd.in/gkdfkGxF

  • From Pedal Radios to 24/7 Virtual Care: Celebrating the Evolution of Telehealth In 1929, the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) introduced the revolutionary pedal radio, allowing remote communities in Australia to connect with essential medical services for the very first time. Fast forward to today, and telehealth has become an indispensable part of healthcare—providing around-the-clock support to people no matter where they are. As we mark Telehealth Awareness Month, we reflect on how far we’ve come, from those early innovations to today’s cutting-edge virtual care solutions. Telehealth has broken down geographical barriers, ensuring that patients in even the most isolated regions can receive timely and expert medical care. Whether it’s a consultation from your living room or providing life-saving advice to a patient hundreds of miles away, this technology continues to transform healthcare. The journey doesn’t stop here. With advancements in AI, wearable devices, and real-time health monitoring, the future of telehealth promises even greater accessibility, personalization, and efficiency in healthcare delivery. We are excited about the potential that lies ahead—where remote care will not only respond to immediate needs but also predict and prevent health issues before they arise. https://lnkd.in/gF5n78Vc #RFDS #Healthcare #Health

  • This week the SA Government announced a historic 10-year agreement with the RFDS to enhance aeromedical services. The new partnership will bolster operational capacity out of Adelaide Airport, increasing RFDS operations to four aircraft during the day and three overnight. With the RFDS working alongside SA Ambulance Service (SAAS) and SAAS MedSTAR to conduct 7,400 inter-hospital transfers and retrievals each year, this investment enhances care for all South Australians in emergencies. • The RFDS was extremely proud to be on the sidelines of the Socceroos World Cup Qualifier at Adelaide Oval last night to provide medical support to the players of both teams. Our multi-disciplinary team was made up of doctors, nurses and paramedic staff. Fortunately, the game saw no serious injuries, but our involvement is another example of the Flying Doctor’s extension of care and desire to contribute more broadly to health care in our community. On a side note, it was great to see the Aussies get up 3-1!

  • Any day is the day to ask R U OK? Today our Manager - Central West and Outback Mental Health in Queensland, Dr Tim Driscoll, shares how starting a conversation can save a life. 🙏 "The first time I heard about R U OK? Day was from a security guard who shared that being asked this simple question came at a critical time for him—and it may have even saved his life. Since then, he’s made a point to always check in on others. His story stuck with me, and this week, I’ve had conversations with many people about the significance of checking in. We’re often the first line of support, and asking, listening, and following up can genuinely change lives. So, this R U OK? Day, and every day, if you're concerned about someone or just want to show you care, ask the question, "Are you OK?". It could save a life."
