About us
The Road Safety Commission is a State Government agency with a big vision – to make every journey safe. Led by Road Safety Commissioner Adrian Warner, the passionate team that make up the Road Safety Commission is committed to reducing the number of people killed or seriously injured on Western Australian roads by at least 50% by 2030. This could save up to 723 lives and prevent approximately 8,000 people suffering from serious and life-changing injuries over the next decade. To reach this target and deliver on the priorities set out in Driving Change – the Road Safety Strategy for Western Australia, the team works collaboratively with all levels of government, the private and not-for-profit sectors and the community. The Road Safety Commission uses the latest data, insights and technology to inform innovative policies, programs and public awareness campaigns addressing the following five priority areas: 1. Safe road users 2. Safe roads 3. Safe vehicles 4. Safe speeds 5. Post-crash response. Everybody who uses WA roads is important. The Road Safety Commission works to improve road safety outcomes for all road users ranging from drivers of heavy haulage vehicles and family cars to vulnerable road users including people walking and riding bikes, seniors, people with disability, motorcyclists and eRideable users.

If you needed to create an advertising campaign to warn young people about the danger of mobile phone distraction, what would it look like? The Re:act program challenges communications and graphic design students to create campaigns to raise awareness of road safety issues among their peers. This year's theme is mobile phone distraction. Check out 'Let Your Phone Chillax', the winning campaign from Curtin University graphic design students, and visit our website to find out more: https://lnkd.in/gXF-bfXf

Road Safety Commissioner Adrian Warner spent a great day visiting Narembeen for the final day of SOCK Week (Save our Country Kids). SOCK Week was founded by staff at the Narembeen Community Resource Centre in response to the tragic deaths of five young people from the Narembeen community on local roads. The Road Safety Commission is proud to support SOCK Week, which seeks to instill safe driving behaviours into the community’s young people. This initiative has now been taken on by 23 other regional towns. During his visit Adrian took part in the local library Story Time, visited the Narembeen District High School for Fluro Friday, met with local government councillors and first responders, and attended the very moving community vigil to remember community members who had lost their lives on the roads. Road Safety Commissioner Adrian Warner was in Northam yesterday for the launch of the NearMiss pilot program, a partnership between the Road Safety Commission and Shire of Northam. The NearMiss camera technology is capable of detecting near misses between vehicles and/or pedestrians. The technology uses a portable camera combined with AI software that analyses video in real-time to provide insights, severity levels and risk ratings for near-miss events. The data collected from these cameras can be used to support the development of road safety planning and investment cases by local government, to upgrade or improve road infrastructure. The Shire of Northam will trial the new cameras over three months, with drivers not being booked during this period. The new technology will help to identify opportunities to maximise road safety outcomes.

We have partnered with the WA Police Force, Department of Fire and Emergency Services and St John WA to create the Seatbelts Save Lives campaign. This campaign raises awareness that people are dying in crashes not wearing seatbelts. People who may have otherwise survived. First responders Carla, Emma and Clinton provide a candid insight into the true impact of not wearing a seatbelt when a crash occurs – from the point-of-view of those first on the scene of a crash. If you see what they see, it would just click that seatbelts save lives. For more information about the campaign visit: https://lnkd.in/gjQGEQWU
