Sophie Hanna attended the Murray Region Forestry Hub Strategic Blackberry Forum in Albury last week. Representatives for private and public land managers, government agencies, key organisations and researchers collaborated to identify next steps to tackle the growing blackberry problem. ❌ European Blackberry is a declared Weed of National Significance that is proliferating across all land types in high rainfall areas, causing major environmental and agricultural and forestry productivity damage ➡️https://hubs.la/Q02WVwfs0 📢 The forum provided context for blackberry control efforts, costs and economic impacts across the Murray Region Forestry Hub before identifying key elements for a Strategic Action Plan. Find out more: https://hubs.la/Q02WVbVR0 ✔️This plan will be instrumental in tackling the problem that has exacerbated following the 2019-20 bushfires and several wet years. 🌾 Exploring Grains Research and Development Corporation National Variety Trials (NVT) at Gerogery! 🌾 We had an great session at the NVT site in Gerogery, NSW, where we dug deep into crop performance and profitable growing strategies. Conversations revolved around sowing dates, yield potential, marketability, and susceptibility to disease. Discussion on identifying frost damage was led by Sheree Hamson, Elders agronomist. Most saying damage was variable across paddocks so difficult to quantify. The option to make hay may still be available however there is plenty of cost factors to consider including the export of nutrients. Big thanks to our expert speakers and growers who joined us! 🙌 These conversations are driving the future of profitable, sustainable farming. ➡️More info on the Hyper Profitable Crops project: https://hubs.la/Q02Tz3bc0
