How do you relieve stress? Work stress is a huge contributor to burnout in the modern world. According to The University of Rochester Medical Centre, short term effects of stress include headaches, shallow breathing, trouble sleeping, anxiety, and an upset stomach. They continue to explore how long-term constant stress can increase risk of heart disease, back pain, depression, lasting muscle aches and pains, and a weakened immune system. We asked our network what methods they use to decompress from their jobs. It is important to have strategies in place in your everyday life to ensure that stress doesn't reach a constant or perpetual level. If you find that your stress has been at a high level for an extended period of time, it may be time to talk with a mental health provider. At Reo Group, we empower our team to make sure we don't hit stage 4 burnout. We give all our consultants 2 extra leave days per quarter that they can use to rest, recharge, and come back stronger, and offer regular opportunities to check in and be supported by your team and managers. If you're interested in working for a business that will work alongside you to manage stress and burnout, reach out to Clare Zizza for a confidential chat today.

We are so excited to see the impacts that CAYLUS (Central Australian Youth Link Up Service) and Dot Com Mob are having on the ground. They have supported the set up of 28 computer rooms, WiFi and devices for youth programs! We are honoured that we are able to play a role in this process. Every time Reo Group places a candidate we give 50 days of technology education to remote Aboriginal communities. We do this through the Business for Good platform B1G1. To date we have made 32,129 impacts, which equates to over 71 years of technology education for remote Aboriginal communities. Connectivity in remote communities! Absolutely essential! Equally important and perhaps less understood, is providing access and maintenance buildings for computer rooms, devices, computers, and dependable charging opportunities. Since opening the Papunya Computer room way back in 2008, with philanthropic support from Dot Com Mob B1G1 - Speakers for Good, Reo Group we have supported 28 sites with computer rooms, wifi, and devices for youth programs. If you, your work or your organisation has the capacity to support this essential work, please get in touch [email protected] #Centralaustralia #internetaccess #philanthropy #youthprograms #remotecommunityconnectivity #NT #youthwork

If you know me, you know that Coffee is life! I went to my local café this morning, as I do a few times a week. Recently, they got a new owner, and it was obvious—for all the wrong reasons. Scrappy signage, confusing menus, and frustrated staff. Turns out, the new owners have never run a café before, and the transition has been rough to say the least. The young lady who usually serves me, an absolute star, who also makes the best coffee, told me today is her last day!!! She found a job closer to home—30 minutes closer! I always assumed she was local. I've seen her run the place by herself, and I’m really going to miss our morning chats and her delicious coffee. I wished her all the best in her new role and promised to visit if I’m ever in the area. This got me thinking—whether it's a café or a large business, people like to do business with people they like. This café, although local, wasn’t the cheapest. So why did I go there almost every morning? Because of her. (and the delicious coffee she made) If she was going somewhere local, I’d 100% follow her. Isn't it the same in business? You find a great product or service and stick with it until something changes. And that change is often a person. Richard Branson said it best: "Train people well enough so they can leave, treat them well enough so they don't want to." I can see this café is really going to struggle without her. Why did she leave? Yes, the new job is closer to home, but she also said, "I just can't work with someone like that, he doesn't listen and doesn't want to know." For three years, she drove there every day. The travel wasn’t enough to make her leave, but a new management team who didn’t understand the business or know how to nurture and involve their staff was. People run your business. Look after them. Happy Friday!! Go have a nice delicious coffee at a local café and be kind to the person serving you 😊

So, a key leader in your organisation has just resigned... You offered them a pay rise, asked to extend their contract, and your preferred two candidates aren't available for another year (one is on a career break and the other has another year on their contract). The counter-offer didn't work, and it's now public. What do you do? The importance of having a robust succession planning framework cannot be overstated. Succession planning is a proactive strategy that ensures your organisation is never caught off guard by unexpected departures or leadership gaps. A well-thought-out succession plan allows you to identify and develop internal talent, grooming potential leaders well before a vacancy arises. In this scenario, the departure of a key leader could have been anticipated and prepared for if a solid succession plan was in place. Ideally, you would have already identified an aspiring manager within the organisation—someone who's been mentored and guided by the departing leader and has been on a similar career trajectory. This individual would have been gradually exposed to higher responsibilities, key decision-making processes, and strategic initiatives, allowing them to grow into the role over time. Reo Group Executive Search recognises the importance of good succession planning. That is why we specialise in C-Suite roles, as well as their direct reports, and can bolster your organisation from within. At the beginning of August, Reo Group held an event with Chibs Okereke where we learned about 'flirting with burnout' - an affliction that many may find themselves in, where you burnout, recover, and start the process again with no long term solutions in mind. The key to overcoming this cycle is to manage your stress before you reach stage 4 burnout. We'd love to know - how do you manage your stress when work gets a little too much? Regular exercise can improve cardiovascular health and boost energy levels. It also stimulates the production of endorphins, often referred to as "feel-good" hormones, which can help reduce feelings of stress and anxiety. Meditation and mindfulness practices (including breathing exercises, and journalling) help calm the mind, reduce anxiety, and increase emotional resilience. These practices also enhance self-awareness and emotional regulation, making it easier to respond to stressors in a balanced way. Venting and talking to someone can help take the stresses and problems that live in your end and release them. Talking to an uninvolved third party can also help gain perspective and rationalise some of your anxieties. Regular breaks and vacations allow for physical and mental rest, helping to recharge and reduce burnout. Short breaks during work can enhance focus and productivity, while holidays provide a more extended opportunity to refresh and return to work with renewed energy. How do you manage your work stress? At Reo Group, we empower our team to make sure we don't hit stage 4 burnout. We give all our consultants 2 extra leave days per quarter that they can use to rest, recharge, and come back stronger, and offer regular opportunities to check in and be supported by your team and managers. If you're interested in working for a business that will work alongside you to manage stress and burnout, reach out to Clare Zizza for a confidential chat today.

That's a wrap on Village Con 2024! We have celebrated our annual national conference, Village Con, focusing on connectedness, togetherness, and personal development, bringing together our team from all across the country. We gave back to our villagers by investing in their learning development both as professionals, as leaders, and individuals. Our first session was from our visionary CEO, Stella Petrou Concha, who gave an incredible session and workshop on Cultivating Confidence Through the Lens of Self Mastery. We took the time to look inwards and focus on ourselves and how we can grow on our personal journeys of self mastery. Our second session came from our incredible Head of People & Culture, Chloe Norris, who took us through how to Speak Like a Leader. We learned about the 5 Chairs of Behaviour and about how leadership does not only mean having a direct report, but can be at any stage of your career. We then kicked back at night with a hoedown! The Reo Village transformed into our best cowboy-hat-wearing, line-dancing selves, and grapevine'd and dosey-doe'd the night away.
