Just reminiscing of warmer times in Darwin! 😉 Last week our Board spent a day working on the RAAA’s strategy for the next 5 years. We were treated with a very informative trip down memory lane as we reviewed where we’ve come from (led by former RAAA Chair Michael Bridge), looked into where we are now and then jumped into the fun part to brainstorm where we all want to go in the near future… Our new strategic plan is shaping up well and will be shared with our members soon… Carl Jepsen Stewart Tully Shannon Wells Michael McConachy Eliza Tipping Malcolm Sharp Adrianne Fleming OAM GAICD Mark Wardrop Daniel Bowden David Trevelyan Greg Atkin Rob Walker GAICD FRAeS

And that’s a wrap for Darwin!! Safe travels to everyone heading home now and hopefully those that caught the red eye out last night are still functioning ok today 😉! It’s very clear to us that one of the main benefits of being involved with the RAAA is the chance to catch up with your fellow colleagues and discuss all manner of issues - and it’s also pretty cool to see new initiatives form out of these networking opportunities too…🤗 Hopefully see you all again in Fremantle in December! Training was a big theme at this Roadshow as Greg Imlay from Civil Aviation Safety Authority continued discussions around training and checking systems and the resources available from CASA to assist operators with the current transition. Malcolm Sharp re-joined us up the front again to share RAAAs upcoming work in the pilot bond/award space before Mark Wardrop shared Chartair’s journey as they celebrate their 50th anniversary this year! Our day rounded out with Alyssa Ford from Australian Transport Safety Bureau giving a demonstration of their new wildlife strike dashboard which can help operators and pilots with recognising higher incident areas. Thank you to all of our presenters for your time and for stimulating such important discussions on a broad range of issues that our industry is currently facing.

Thank you to Wayne Tattersall from AMDA Foundation Limited for opening Day 2 of the RAAA Regional Roadshow. We kicked off the day with an update from Steven Campbell at the Civil Aviation Safety Authority on a range of CASA’s current activities including their online service delivery dashboard and the 150% increase in LAME licences issued. Simon Godsmark from Airservices Australia then gave us an update on their internal organisational changes and the challenges and way forward with Perth slot management. Before lunch RAAA Director David Trevelyan from Basair Aviation College led a very engaging discussion on pilot training and what to look for when hiring new graduates before our Chairman Malcolm Sharp from Sharp Airlines and CEO Rob Walker GAICD FRAeS provided an update on our 5 year strategy admist the release of the Aviation White Paper.

Day 1 of the RAAA Regional Roadshow in Darwin has kicked off with an exclusive visit to the RFDS Darwin Tourist Facility. Thank you to Michael Galvin, Georgina Mommers, Bek Garrett, Noni Romano and the team for making us feel so welcome! It was fascinating to learn more about the incredible history of the RFDS and how it first began as one man’s grand vision for an outback medical service. The RFDS has expanded enormously since it began in 1928 and it now helps over 300,000 people across the country every year! The facility also gives an immersive and respectful recap of the Darwin bombings that hit the fleet, wharf and town back in 1942 when the Japanese attacked our northern shoreline. With just under 2 weeks to go until our Darwin Regional Roadshow we wanted to share with you the final program of speakers! We're looking forward to hearing industry updates from Pip Spence and Steven Campbell from Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) as well as Simon Godsmark from Airservices Australia. In addition, we're also getting some practical tips and advice from Greg Imlay from CASA's Darwin office on training & checking and safety management systems, David Trevelyan from Basair Aviation College on pilot training and bonds, and Alyssa Ford from Australian Transport Safety Bureau on their new wildlife strike dashboard. There'll also be updates too from us on our strategic future by our CEO Rob Walker GAICD FRAeS and Chairman Malcolm Sharp and our Technical Working Group program by our Vice Chair Mark Wardrop Finally, it wouldn't be an RAAA event without plenty of networking, a visit to the RFDS Darwin Tourist Facility and recognition of Chartair's 50th anniversary. Full program is here: https://lnkd.in/gJmJEkGS Don't miss your chance to get your tickets: https://lnkd.in/gNnkGM-e Our Roadshows are open to all aviation industry supporters (not just our members) - and we'd especially love to see those of you currently operating in the top end who maybe don't get to make it south to our other events.

RAAA members are continuing to support regional, rural, and remote communities across Australia in the wake of Regional Express (Rex) entering voluntary administration. The RAAA shares community concerns for all affected by the administration of Rex, especially the regional communities serviced by the airline and the dedicated staff involved. The RAAA highlights the importance of industry playing a key role in working with Government to ensure the best possible outcome for these communities, long term sustainability of regional aviation, and the Australian taxpayer. The welfare and connectivity of regional and rural Australians is at the core of our organisation’s purpose, and the RAAA is a key stakeholder in any government decision on this topic.
