We have a proud partnership with Holberton School Australia. So, when they approached us about recording a podcast series to help demystify technology careers, we said yes straight away! Their 'What the heck is Tech?' series is rolling out over the coming months, with each episode focused on a different role you may find in a technology company and featuring an REA employee to help decode some of the terminology you might find in a job advertisement. The introduction episode features REA Group General Manager Engineering - Customer Product, Daniel Haughey, setting us up with an overview of what it means to work in the digital world. Our culture is a distinctive part of who we are, and in the last three years we have been intentional about how we invest in it and grow it. Earlier this year, we participated in the Human Synergistics Australia & NZ Organisational Culture Inventory (OCI) to measure our progress, and we’re pleased to share that our results have seen us awarded a Culture Transformation Award for 2024 at their Culture and Leadership Conference. This award is a wonderful recognition of the work environment our people have shaped as culture creators at REA. Through high-performance leadership and culture programs with a focus on psychological safety, our people have worked together to support and strengthen REA’s high-performance culture.

It's been over a year since the launch of realestate.com.au’s podcast, real Talk, hosted by REA Group Native Content Editor, Alice Piper. In that time we've brought listeners more than 45 episodes to help them navigate the Australian property market, covering topics such as interest rates, housing affordability and supply, the rental crunch, and the bank of mum and dad. In 2023, 31% of buyers opted to build new. What's causing the desire for new builds and can this help make a dent in Australia's housing shortage? In real Talk's latest episode, Alice chats to Senior Economist at PropTrack, Paul Ryan, and Stuart Penklis, the CEO of Development at Mirvac, to analyse the state of play and whether new builds in strategically located areas can reduce urban sprawl, utilise existing infrastructure, and help the government meet its housing targets. Backed by rich data and insights from REA's property data business, PropTrack, real Talk aims to demystify property for the next generation of Aussie home hunters, answering real questions and providing advice from property experts to help them make informed choices. Have you seen realestate.com.au's iconic red couch out and about IRL? We've launched a new immersive out-of-home campaign following the successful launch of the 'Keep Moving' brand campaign during the Paris Olympics. Commuters in Melbourne and Sydney CBDs won't miss the ‘Keep Moving’ campaign with a takeover of the steps at Southern Cross Station in Melbourne and Central Station in Sydney, highlighting realestate.com.au’s support in ‘helping you take the next step’ in your property journey. Visitors and locals in Bondi can now take a seat on the red couch featured in the campaign’s TVC at the Campbell Parade bus stop. Residents in Melbourne's inner-north can also keep an eye out for a similar special build launching in Fitzroy later this month. REA Group General Manager Audience and Marketing, Sarah Myers, said: "We’re thrilled to now be bringing these innovative outdoor executions into the campaign, to provide consumers with an engaging brand experience and encourage them to ‘keep moving’ into the spring property season.”

What makes working at REA Group different to anywhere else? That's just one of the questions our people were asked by a question-generating app built by our tech grads, when they entered 'The Culture Lab' video experience at our recent company-wide event, REA Kick Off. That sentence alone should give you a clue about what makes us unique, but check out what our Culture Lab visitors had to say in the video below. Interested in a career at REA in the future? Last week, we were delighted to have some of our 11.0 Tech Grads presenting the winning certificates to participants of this year's VicHack event. VicHack is the largest hackathon event for students in Victoria, with invitations open from year 10 all the way up to university. The event was organised by student clubs from University of Melbourne, Monash University, and RMIT, and almost 300 participants formed 38 teams to hack ideas in one of four areas – Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Data Science and Mobile. 'Entry to REA' was a proud event sponsor. REA Group Architect, Anton Wintergerst, joined Head of Talent Brand & Enablement, Lee Jones, to open the event, before the winners received their certificates from Graduates Bryan ThiaGio Basrewan, and Grace Sendjaja. It was an inspiring event with some next-level submissions. Congratulations to all the VicHack winners!

At REA, we’re committed to creating opportunities and minimising barriers for women entering the tech industry. We recently had the pleasure of hosting Grad Girls students at our Speed Networking Night, and it was an incredible experience! Sponsoring Grad Girls - Women 4 STEM is incredibly important to us, as it allows us to foster relationships with women starting their careers in STEM. Our volunteers from across the business came together for an evening filled with insightful conversations and hands-on learning. Highlights included our "Ask-Me-Anything" roundtable sessions, where lively discussions sparked invaluable knowledge sharing. Attendees also dived into the Double Diamond Design Process Model, an interactive session that left everyone buzzing with new ideas and industry insights. A big thank you to everyone who participated and made the night a success!
