RAC Design interns experience ends on a sweet note 🍯🐝 Over the past 11 weeks, we’ve been lucky to have three final-year graphic design students working with us as RAC CoLAB Design Interns. Charlotte Lyne, Lizzie Wilkie and Kerly Aavik are in their final year of an Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design at North Metropolitan TAFE. During their time with us, they designed an impressive new way for people working across our Member Value and Connection function to understand what tools are available to use, and when best to use them. They took us through a rigorous design process to get to a final solution, including research, user-testing, and design iterations. Their solution? Tool Hive: A one-stop-shop to find software available for our people to use, and their specific functions. We're now trialling the tool as part of our onboarding process for new designers at RAC. #experiencedesign #internship #racwa #usertesting #design #designers #tafe #collaboration #presentation

This week, our Acting Senior Manager Public Policy, David Elston presented findings from three of RAC’s key road safety projects at the Australasian Road Safety Conference. Projects included: 🚗 Modelling the impact of speed management on road deaths and serious injuries in WA with CARRS-Q 🚗Testing messages relating to the communication of speed limit changes 🚗 A business case identifying cost effective safety improvements on 8,200 km of high-speed local government roads in WA to prevent 627 deaths and serious injuries over 30 years. This was delivered in partnership with NTRO - National Transport Research Organisation, WA Local Government Association (WALGA) and Main Roads Western Australia. The findings were shared with more than 600 road safety and injury prevention researchers, practitioners, academics and policy makers at the conference. Tragically, WA is on track to record one of the worst years for road deaths in almost a decade, following a surge in fatalities in the first nine months of 2024.

Our RAC CoLAB and Parks & Resorts marketing team have joined forces to explore how to enhance the holiday experience for families at our properties 🏝️ We engaged with our members through a series of collaborative workshops, and gathered insights directly from our guests at RAC Monkey Mia Dolphin Resort. At the resort, families took part in creative activities such as writing postcards, designing robot helpers and holiday drawings. What emerged from these conversations? Families seek streamlined ways to plan activities, support with long-distance travel, and resources to ignite excitement in their children before the trip. These insights will help us improve the experience for our members to make every family holiday unforgettable. #codesign #experiencedesign #holiday #families #collaboration

The 'World Can Wait' campaign, designed by Jessie from North Metropolitan TAFE, was WA's winner for the 2024 Re:act Tafe program.    Her aim was to encourage youth to activate 'Do Not Disturb' on their phone while driving and reduce driver distraction, which was the focus of this year's program.   RAC is a proud supporter of the Re:act program, which challenges young creatives from tertiary institutions across Australia to tackle road safety issues through their unique designs.   To learn more about Re:act, head to www.reactforchange.org oOh! Our CoLAB team showcased the power of inclusive design at AGDA's Represent event ✨ The event brought together a diverse group of Perth creatives, to explore how creative processes and inclusive design practices can bring meaningful representation to design. Our CoLAB Experience Designers, James Pritchard and Lisa Fletcher, shared how we're designing inclusive and accessible experiences for our people and members at RAC. They presented a case study on RAC's 'With, Not For' initiative, highlighting how they included First Nations people and people with lived experience of disability in their collaborative design journey. RAC CoLAB is a team who apply member-centred design to tackle new opportunities and challenging situations. They collaborate with our members to nurture new ideas that will grow and transform RAC for a better WA. 📷 Corey Battersby #inclusivedesign #collaboration #experiencedesign #inclusivity #inclusive #casestudy #design #brand #accessibility

Our RAC Air Health Monitor has been recognised on the national stage 🏆 Last night, the RAC Air Health Monitor won the Industry Excellence Award at the 2024 CASANZ (Clean Air Society of Australia and New Zealand) Innovation and Excellence in Air Quality Awards. The Monitor is the biggest network in Australia, powered by 200 air quality sensors and covering 9,730 km² across 143 suburbs in the Perth and Peel region. Using an interactive platform, it enables the Perth community to see the air quality in their area, and the impact of vehicle emissions on their everyday lives. Insights will be shared with the community and government, so we can all take positive action to reduce harmful vehicle emissions and contribute to cleaner, healthier air. Thanks to our project partners, including Clarity Movement Co. and Ramboll, and our sensor hosts who have helped make this initiative possible.
