We’re thrilled to support Wear It Purple Day by lighting up Central Station in vibrant purple! 💜🌈 Wear It Purple Day shines a spotlight on the challenges faced by young people who are gender or sexuality diverse. It’s our opportunity to stand up against bullying and ensure every young person feels safe, valued, and included. Members of our Executive Leadership Team Bec (Rebecca) Munn and Neil Backer joined our Diversity and Inclusion team in wearing purple as they visited the Central Station concourse. At Queensland Rail, inclusivity and diversity are central to our values. We’re committed to making everyone feel welcome across our network and within our organisation, and we’re proud to support this vital cause.

It’s trespassing, it’s vandalism, and it costs around 1 million dollars a year to remove! Our customers have made it clear they don’t appreciate graffiti on our trains, and engaging in this behaviour risks serious injuries, jail time, or even death. At Queensland Rail, the safety and comfort of our customers is our highest priority. We are committed to reducing graffiti incidents across our network and will continue to work hard to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.

What a crew of little safety stars! ✨🚊 Our Queensland Rail Education Team is dedicated to making rail safety a priority for the next generation - regularly visiting local daycares to teach young children about staying safe around trains and tracks. Through interactive stories and fun activities, our team ensures that safety lessons are both engaging and impactful. Their hard work helps prepare future rail users to be safe and confident on our network. ✅

Celebrating our people is a priority at Queensland Rail, and today we are so proud to acknowledge Gympie North’s Assistant Station Master, Mervyn, for his incredible 60 years of service! Merv’s commitment and passion for his work exemplify the dedication that drives our success. Starting at Queensland Rail in 1964 at just 16, Merv has become a cornerstone of our team. His journey, which spans multiple locations across Queensland, reflects the deep connections our employees forge with the communities they serve. Our CEO, Kat Stapleton, said it best: "This is a special milestone for Queensland Rail, too – with Mr. Suares being the first employee to reach 60 years of service. It shows that Queensland Rail is the place where connection counts." Congratulations, Merv, on reaching this remarkable milestone - you've made a positive impact at Queensland Rail!

From swimming lanes to guiding trains! 🏊♀️🚉 Meet Keryn McMaster, one of our dedicated Network Controllers at Queensland Rail and Olympic swimmer. Keryn's love for swimming started early. Her brother, who suffered severe burns as a toddler, needed skin grafts and swimming was recommended for his rehab. Like any younger sibling, Keryn wanted to join him in the water instead of sitting on the sidelines. Swimming also helped Keryn manage her asthma, turning what started as a way to support her brother into a lifelong passion. Reflecting on her Olympic experience, Keryn described it as something hard to put into words. "It's like a child walking into a giant playground with unlimited candy. Every athlete has dedicated their entire life to reach this point, and being surrounded by the best of the best is both exhilarating and nerve-wracking,” she said. Keryn has been with Queensland Rail for five years now, working as a Network Controller. Her role involves coordinating train movements, managing track access, and handling incidents on the network. What Keryn loves most about her role is the challenge it presents. She strives to do her job better each day, a mindset very similar to high-performance swimming. The skills she developed in swimming, such as staying calm under pressure, developing contingency plans, and being adaptable, have seamlessly transferred to her current role. Keryn is also a strong advocate for QR's 1Team values, always striving for common goals and seeing what can be achieved together as a team. As a fun fact, during her racing days, Keryn always had to have pink nails and a pair of green M&M earrings. These little rituals were a must for her! Keryn McMaster’s journey from the Olympic pool to Queensland Rail is a testament to her dedication, adaptability, and team spirit. We're proud to have her as part of our team, ensuring the safety and efficiency of our rail network every day.
