Congratulations to our Technical Services Manager, Mark Veach, who competed for Australia alongside his daughter at the World Triathlon Multisport Championships' Aquathlon event in Townsville! The Aquathlon features a 2.5km run - 1km swim - 2.5km run, and Mark achieved a new personal best by beating his qualifying time. 🎉 Happy 57th Birthday QAL! 🎉 QAL is celebrating 57 years of operations in the Gladstone region! We officially began production on 4 August, 1967 after a four-year construction period. Since then, we’ve produced over 160 million tonnes of alumina for the world, all the while providing support to our region through decades of community investment while recruiting the largest workforce in Gladstone. We’re here to stay, having invested in expansion projects to increase our production capacity, executing our 5-Year Environment Strategy and, moving forward as a sustainable operator through decarbonisation projects. Rio Tinto Yarwun, Boyne Smelters Limited and Queensland Alumina Limited are proud to partner with CQUniversity to support its new Hydrogen Hub as a centre for learning, interaction and engagement about hydrogen in Gladstone. Our joint $76,500 investment via the Rio Tinto Here for Gladstone community fund will see the refurbishment of CQUniversity’s Rex Metcalfe Lecture Theatre, ensuring it remains a valued space for education and community for future generations. We are incredibly proud to support this project and showcase our commitment to the Gladstone region. We’re donning the green and yellow (gold – depending on the angle…) to support our Aussies away from home and send our congratulations to two very special Gladstone locals – BMX Freestyle competitor Natalya Diehm, the first Australian woman to win an Olympic medal in her field, and 800m runner Peyton Craig, who will make his Olympic debut after clocking an Olympic qualifying time in Vienna.
