  • Recently, our very own Commissioner, David Mackie along with Deputy Commissioner Jennifer Lang presented to delegates from the Asia Pacific Integrity School, including from Indonesia, Cambodia and Papua New Guinea.   There were wide-ranging discussions about integrity in the Queensland public sector and we were delighted to hear some of the questions the delegates had for the PSC. We would also like to give a shoutout to our very own Kira Vardanega, Director, Policy, Conduct and Performance and David Reed, Executive Director, Public Sector Employment Practice for also presenting.   We look forward to more such opportunities to share knowledge and exchange ideas with delegates from across the globe, increasing our exposure and making the Queensland public sector even better.   #BeHere4Qld #BeTheDifference #PublicSectorIntegrity

  • Recently, our very own Debra Clayton and Jamie Johnson from the First Nations Leadership and Reform team were honoured to be invited as guest speakers at the launch of the Department of Transport and Main Roads' Yarn and Grow mentoring program. Jamie, a former mentee of the program, shared his personal journey and the profound impact the mentoring had on his career development and leadership skills. Debra, who co-developed and launched the Yarn and Grow program back in 2010 at Child Safety spoke passionately about her long-standing commitment to the initiative. She expressed her pride in witnessing its evolution and expansion, highlighting the program's ongoing success in building strong, supportive networks for First Nations professionals. • We’ve just hit GO on the 2024 Working for Queensland survey! For the last few months our Strategic Workforce Futures team have been working to develop this year’s survey, which is now live across the Queensland public sector. Between now and Friday 20 September Queensland government employees, from the 63 participating organisations will use their voice and share their opinions to drive positive change across our workplaces. For us at the PSC the insights we have gained from previous years surveys have enabled us to… ☀️ develop better internal communication practices ☀️ provide more career development opportunities both formal and on-the-job ☀️ promote more inclusive health and wellbeing initiatives ☀️ continue to build and strengthen the workplace culture in the PSC. The survey gives great feedback and helps our organisations better understand our employees’ day-to-day experiences. #BeHere4Qld #WfQ24 #WorkingForQueensland #YourPSC

  • It’s an exciting time of the year for us here at the PSC and we’re on the countdown to delivering the next annual employee opinion survey across Queensland’s largest workforce.   The Working for Queensland survey provides the opportunity Queensland public servants to have their say on their day-to-day workplace experiences.    These opinions are used to gain invaluable insights and used at an agency and sector level to effect positive change.     A huge shoutout to our incredible Working for Queensland team – Gemma Hicks and Sue Cameron for preparing another survey, and to our Communications and Engagement team for helping to get the word out!   If your organisation is one of the 63 participating organisations, be sure to make your opinion count from 26 August to 20 September and help us build an even better public sector. Keep an eye out on your inbox for the agency-specific survey link on Monday 26 August.    Find out more about the Working for Queensland survey and the results from the previous years: https://lnkd.in/gJXENRgF PS – It’s only four more ‘sleeps’!   #BeHere4Qld #BeTheDifference #MakeYourOpinionCount

  • Today is Equal Pay Day, which marks the 50 days into the new financial year that Australian women must work to earn the same, on average, as men did last year. This reflects the national 11.5% gender pay gap between average men’s and women’s salaries.   The promising news for women in Queensland is that the Queensland public sector gender pay gap is much lower than the national average and continues to narrow each year – from 7.82% in 2021 to 5.94% in 2024. The results reflect the focused work of agencies, the Special Commissioner, Equity and Diversity Dr Linda Colley and her incredible team who continue to pursue initiatives aimed at improving equity outcomes across Queensland’s largest workforce.   Learn more about the Equal Pay Day on the Workplace Gender Equality Agency website: https://lnkd.in/gvp6vMj5   Find out more about the work of the OSC and initiatives to address gender inequity: https://lnkd.in/gXpRnUrA

Creating a supportive and inclusive workplace for people with a disability is significant to ensuring that their disability is not a barrier to success.   The Department of Resources (Queensland) is leading the way in creating disability inclusive workplaces with two proactive initiatives in place to facilitate open and ongoing conversations with their employees, creating greater awareness and more disability inclusive workplace practices.   Led by their All-Abilities Action Group and disability executive champion, a session was held with 250 staff who identified as having a disability, disability advocates and parents of children with a disability. As a direct response to the session, the department committed to creating a bespoke Neurodiversity Ally Program.   The department also designed an Inclusion Passport pilot which captures the employees’ needs and helps guide a conversation about reasonable adjustments and flexible work in a more holistic way.   These innovative initiatives are setting new standards for inclusion and accessibility in the workplace, ensuring that every employee has the support they need to thrive.   Find out more about this and other case studies in the State of the sector report 2024: https://lnkd.in/gvnr4zbk   #BeHere4Qld #BeTheDifference #BeYou #Stateofthesector
