Meet Luke Reade, President and Policy Advocate at Energetic Communities Association and a community sector frontline hero! Luke says the poorest and most vulnerable people and communities bear the brunt of climate change impacts yet contribute the least to the crisis and have the least agency to act on it; this includes accessing or affording energy efficiency or technology like solar batteries. This #antipoverty week, QCOSS is calling for urgent regulation in the rental market for the 1/3 of Queenslanders who rent, many of whom are being pushed into poverty with every rent hike. We know that implementing energy efficient minimum standards will help raise Queenslanders out of poverty. We urge the State Government and Opposition to commit to commit to this, along with: ➡️ Limiting rent increase amounts ➡️ End no grounds evictions at the end of the lease

Supportive housing gives people experiencing homelessness the chance to rebuild their lives with dignity and security. “Everybody wants our communities to be safe, nobody wants children to be in watch houses. To date in our public discourse there’s been a premium on posturing and not on problem solving and all of that leads us to a place where the solutions are not evidence informed; they’re evidence avoidant.” QFCC Children’s Commissioner Natalie Lewis.   There are 15 children in Qld watch houses today. 🌍💚 Today is World Mental Health Day, and we're proud to showcase the work of QCOSS member, Stride Mental Health 🌍💚 This year’s theme is 'Mental Health at Work', and one of Stride's Hubs, 'Safe Spaces' in Caboolture, an entirely peer-led group, embodies this theme every single day. We caught up with Xanthe, a true Frontline Hero, who works at the after-hours Space—a welcoming safe place and a crucial alternative to the local mental health hospital. It's a prevention space where people in high distress can find support. For Xanthe, the theme hits home.
