We’ve been interested in the insights and perspectives coming out of the Social Media Summit being held in South Australia today. The latest evidence from the South Australian Population Health Survey (SAPHS) shows 70% of children (17 and under) are racking up more than the recommended two hours a day on screens on weekends, and 42% on weekdays. Screen time during childhood can have long-term impacts on a child’s development. With a third of your life estimated to be spent at work, both your vocation and workplace hold a lot of potential for positively impacting your mental health and wellbeing. This year’s #WorldMentalHealthDay theme is ‘mental health in the workplace’. Although employers have the primary responsibility to protect and promote mental health at work, you can take steps to support your own wellbeing. Every vape is a hit to your health. With 15% of South Australian secondary students reporting use of an e-cigarette in the previous month (2023) – a significant increase from 2017 (2.4%) – action is necessary to reduce use and harm. Visit bevapefree.sa.gov.au

With 1 in 36 South Australians at risk of developing melanoma in their lifetime, we’ve partnered with University of South Australia’s Rosemary Bryant AO Research Centre, for a second year, to deliver free skin checks. Look for the free pop-up skin check clinic at Ceduna Oysterfest on the Ceduna Foreshore, 5-6 October 2024. Nurses from the Eyre Peninsula region will be trained to take images of skin lesions, use artificial intelligence-assisted algorithms to check if any lesions are cancerous and, if required, refer patients to a local general practitioner for follow up. These free skin checks are one of the ways we’re reaching people who do not regularly access a general practitioner. This means we can increase the number of South Australians who detect skin cancer early, making it easier to treat, cure and ultimately save lives. Bookings are required via: https://lnkd.in/gJ_xeJZx Find out more about the Skin Cancer Prevention Framework: https://lnkd.in/gzeW7tMw
