About us

For healthier, happier kids. Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation is the official and largest fundraiser for Perth Children’s Hospital. We fuel the fight on the frontline, to help sick children get well and stay well. By working closely with those on the frontline, the Foundation has an in-depth understanding of what clinicians, researchers and families need to ensure we make a tangible impact where it counts most. This knowledge guides the solutions we fund, ensuring sick children have access to world-class care through the most advanced equipment and technology, research, expertise, education and training, and positive patient experiences. • Click to see PCHF Ambassador Kid Noah then and now! 👉 We first shared Noah's story a few years back. At the time, he had recently discovered he had Long QT Syndrome, a genetic condition causing rapid, chaotic heartbeats that can potentially result in ‘fainting’ and life-threatening seizures, especially during times of physical activity or stress. At age 10, Noah had a critical incident while swimming at a friend’s house. Thankfully, a recently purchased community defibrillator (AED) saved his life. Noah’s heart was shocked to correct its rhythm, and after an ambulance took him to hospital he had two further cardiac arrests. Thanks to PCHF, Noah received two AEDs of his own – one for school, and one for everywhere else. Now 17, Noah is thriving. This year, he returned to the footy field, won a sports award, is getting ready to graduate and hopes to soon start an apprenticeship! 🏆🎓 While he still attends Child and Adolescent Health Service for check-ups, thankfully Noah hasn’t needed to use the AEDs yet, but they’ve constantly been by his side, providing his family with peace of mind. His mum, Fiona, said: “Having the AEDs takes away some of that stress and worry about Noah’s heart condition. We’re forever grateful to PCHF for providing Noah with the defibrillators. This Spring, support WA kids, like Noah with heart-related conditions. For healthier hearts, donate today pchf.org.au/donate 💜 #HealthierHearts #SpringAppeal #DonateNow

  • Meet Ted, he’s 3 (and a half), and alongside dad Michael and mum Michele, he’ll be spending this Father’s Day on the wards at PCH. Teddy will likely be in hospital for the up to two weeks as he recovers from a respiratory infection. He has Cystic Fibrosis (CF) a genetic disorder affecting the lungs and digestive system which causes thick mucus buildup, meaning he requires antibiotics via IV as well as monitoring. This weekend, Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation is helping to make Father’s Day extra special for all the dads, stepdads, grandads, and father figures who will be in at PCH over the weekend supporting their little ones. ❤️ Teddy’s dad, Michael, is a FIFO worker, so despite being in hospital, he’s also looking forward to spending the day with his family. He said: “Teddy has taken his CF in his stride since day dot, whether it’s physio or taking his medication. We’re just so proud of him.” Some of the exciting activities put on by PCHF this Father’s Day includes: 🎯 Giant Games: Connect 4, Hearts & Crosses, and Cornholes set up near Little Lion café on Friday, providing a moment of connection for families waiting for clinic appointments. 🧩 Bedside Fun: For those who couldn’t leave the wards, PCH volunteers brought the fun and games bedside with a Jenga stacking game, generously supplied by MACA Ltd. Our thoughts are with everyone spending this Father’s Day in the hospital, and those that find Father’s Day challenging. • On Sunday, some of our PCHF Ambassador Kids enjoyed an unforgettable experience - made possible thanks to the generosity of The Lane Group - WA Automotive & Peel Motors, Alicia Koidis, and the Fremantle Dockers. 🙌 Our Ambassador Kids Ruby, Archie, Cameron, and his sister Bailee, had the incredible opportunity to watch the Fremantle Dockers take on Port Adelaide from a private suite 🎉 A massive thank you to Fremantle Dockers for helping organise this once-in-a-lifetime experience including a special visit from Karl Worner and Ollie Murphy during halftime. The kids were thrilled, and the goodies to take home were the perfect touch. 💜 Want to know more about becoming a PCHF Ambassador Kid? • Meet Burke. He's 10 years old and mad keen on sports. Looking at him, you would never know he has Familial Hypercholesterolaemia (FH). FH is an inherited, genetic disorder. It's passed down through families, and is the most common cause of high cholesterol which can lead to early heart disease and heart attacks. Without testing, FH often goes undetected. One in every 250 Australians carry FH, including 2,000 WA kids. Like Burke, most people show no symptoms of FH. Shockingly, 95% of people are undiagnosed, and have no idea that they could be living with a ticking time bomb. Burke's FH was identified early, thanks to a PCHF-funded study at Perth Children's Hospital led by Dr Andrew Martin. In future, Dr Martin's dream is that via a simple blood test, doctors will be able to identify more family members with the condition, earlier. With this knowledge, we can improve treatments - helping to prevent kids like Burke from experiencing heart issues from a young age. For healthier hearts, donate to PCHF today. • Thanks to a game-changing $135.5 million investment from the Stan Perron Charitable Foundation, Child and Adolescent Health Service is soon set to be at the forefront of transforming childhood cancer research. The funding will help to ensure that WA kids have access to world-leading cancer care without leaving the state, enabling more clinical trials, and driving the discovery of more effective, less toxic treatments. PCHF has also committed to making a multi-million-dollar contribution to the Telethon Kids Institute Cancer Centre over the next five years, alongside an additional $9 million from The University of Western Australia. This significant investment will also facilitate work to close the gap for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children with cancer and improve long term health and wellbeing in childhood cancer patients. The announcement was made by Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson and Medical Research Minister Stephen Dawson on Saturday, alongside Elizabeth Perron and Professor Nick Gottardo. Congratulations to everyone involved – we can’t wait to see this transformative research get underway! #ChildhoodCancerResearch #PCHF #MedicalResearch #StanPerronFoundation #UWA #PCH #ClosingTheGap #CancerAwareness

  • Meet Burke. He’s just 10 years old, and is living with Familial Hypercholesterolaemia (FH), a genetic heart condition that if left untreated, could shorten his life by up to 20 years. FH is more common than you might think. Every week, three children in WA are born with this potentially life-threatening condition. Despite often having a family history of heart attacks, many people with FH don’t show any obvious symptoms of the disease and remain completely unaware that they’re living with a ticking time bomb. Thanks to the FH in Kids study – led by Dr. Andrew Martin at Child and Adolescent Health Service and funded by Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation – research into early screening programs is making it possible to detect and treat kids with FH before it’s too late. Because of this ground-breaking research, Burke’s FH was detected early, giving him the best chance to live a long, healthy life ❤️ With your support, we can help more kids like Burke. Give a gift for the heart today and help us ensure that more WA kids with heart-related conditions can get well and stay well. • 🚀 Funding the Future: Early Career Researcher Dr David Hancock 🚀 Perth Children's Hospital Foundation, in partnership with the Stan Perron Charitable Foundation, is thrilled to announce the second ever recipient of our Early Career Research (ECR) Award – Dr David Hancock. The ECR Award supports emerging researchers at Child and Adolescent Health Service (PCH), providing a funding boost that empowers them to make groundbreaking contributions to children’s health. As an advanced trainee in respiratory medicine, Dr Hancock’s aim is to demonstrate that respiratory disease risk – like asthma – can be predicted at birth through genetic features in a newborn’s respiratory cells. This innovative approach could allow for intervention before the onset of disease, potentially revolutionising the early detection and treatment of asthma, as well as improving quality of life and even reducing costs for the WA health system. “Recurrent wheezing and asthma are very common yet challenging to diagnose early. If we can understand the genes that lead to the development of recurrent wheezing, we may be able to unlock new ways of identifying and managing children before they are burdened with poorly controlled disease," Dr Hancock explains. Applications are now open for this year’s ECR Award: Click the link below for more information, with applications due on Monday, September 30th. Good luck! https://lnkd.in/g6J3axUn #ChildrensHealth #RespiratoryMedicine #StanPerronCharitableFoundation #FutureOfHealth #EarlyCareerResearcher #EarlyCareerResearch #AsthmaResearch #Asthma

  • 🦠 A Milestone in the Fight Against Superbugs! 🦠 We’re proud to be part of a groundbreaking milestone in medical research with the official opening of WA’s first-ever phage manufacturing facility – set to revolutionize how we tackle antibiotic-resistant superbugs 🌟 The Phage WA facility, driven by the Wal-yan Respiratory Research Centre, will produce life-saving phage therapies right here in Perth, offering hope for patients battling infections like Golden Staph, lung infections, and more. 💪 Phages are ‘friendly’ viruses naturally present in the environment, including waterways and soil, which selectively target and eliminate antibiotic-resistant bacteria – offering a potential alternative to traditional treatment therapies. The Phage WA manufacturing facility represents a crucial step toward making phage therapy a reality for West Aussies facing antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections, and will offer patients access to faster, more effective treatments without needing to wait for resources from other states 🌐 The Wal-yan Respiratory Research Centre is a powerhouse partnership between Telethon Kids Institute, Perth Children's Hospital Foundation and Child and Adolescent Health Service. The Phage WA manufacturing facility is made possible through the support of Australian Government , Government of Western Australia, Conquer Cystic Fibrosis ,Cystic Fibrosis Australia,Perpetual’s Impact Philanthropy Program, the Rothwell Family Foundation, the Stan Perron Charitable Foundation and Therapeutic Innovation Australia. #PhageTherapy #MedicalResearch #Superbugs #WAHealth #AntibioticResistance #PhageWA Pictured: Alex Harper FCCA, Jonathan Carapetis, Anthony Kicic, Stephen Dawson, Alexandra Robertson and Prof André Schultz
