    RUOK Day: A Reminder to Check In with Our Co-Workers This Thursday, we come together to recognise RUOK Day, a national day of action dedicated to reminding us all to check in on one another. The aim is to create an environment where people feel comfortable sharing how they’re really feeling, especially in the workplace where we often spend a significant amount of our time. Why It Matters - Life can be challenging, and while some challenges may be visible, others aren’t. Mental health struggles are often invisible to the eye, making it even more important to reach out with genuine care. We never truly know what a co-worker may be going through, and a simple, thoughtful conversation can make a significant difference. How to Start the Conversation: It can feel awkward to start a conversation about someone’s well-being, but it doesn’t need to be. The RUOK initiative provides a simple framework to follow: Ask: Start by checking in with your colleague. "How are you going?" or "Are you okay?" might seem simple, but it can open the door to an important discussion. Listen: If they do open up, listen without judgment. Sometimes, people just need to feel heard. Encourage Action: If your colleague seems to be struggling, encourage them to seek support, whether that’s talking to HR, seeking professional help, or taking steps to reduce stress. Follow-up: Check in with them again in a few days or weeks. Let them know that you care about their well-being beyond just the initial conversation. Creating a Supportive Culture: As we reflect on RUOK Day, let’s remember that fostering a supportive workplace is an ongoing effort. It involves creating a culture where mental health is openly discussed and where everyone feels safe to express how they’re feeling. By consistently checking in with our co-workers, not just on RUOK Day but throughout the year, we can contribute to a more compassionate and connected workplace. This Thursday, take a moment to check in with your colleagues. You never know—the simple act of asking, "Are you okay?" could be the start of a conversation that changes someone’s day or even their life.
