Congratulations to our 1st place Winner of our 2024 OZ People’s Choice Award, Iris! We firmly believe at people2people that no dog should be left behind – every dog is a top dog! That is why this year once again, every dog that enters is eligible for the 2024 People’s Choice Award, an award that celebrates the impact that our furry best friends have on the people around them, regardless of an official job title or whether its in an office. As the name suggests, this award is decided by you, the People! Iris, an internationally qualified Facility Dog through Guide Dogs Australia, has been enhancing the learning environment at Wirreanda Secondary School in Morphett Vale, SA, since 2020. She supports students' physical, social, and cognitive development by working closely with teachers and staff. Iris provides deep pressure therapy, calming walks, and exposure therapy, particularly benefiting students with complex backgrounds. Her work has led to improved engagement, emotional regulation, and social interaction. Recognized with the Site-Based Support Award in 2022, Iris is the first dog to receive this honour. Congratulations to our 2nd place winner, Kruz, and 3rd place winner, Red as well.

After 9 weeks and nearly 300 entries, the search is over. people2people, in partnership with Edge Recruitment and Infront Sports , are proud to have presented our 2024 OZTOPDOG competition. On behalf of our entire OZTOPDOG team, thank you to everyone for entering our 9th edition and helping make it our biggest and most successful competition to date. The last few months have been about celebrating our furry best friends and shedding some light on their paw-some work. While each entry was uniquely different, the one thing they all had in common was that having your tail-wagging pal around had helped improve your mental health. We are excited to see you all back again next year for our landmark 10th anniversary of OZTOPDOG.

With only 5 days until our OZTOPDOG Award Ceremony, people2people is proud to introduce the judges tasked with crowning our next canine champions. Next up is Grant Shannon, representing Dogs Connect, as one of our official judges for the 2024 competition. Dogs Connect is a world-first mental health and wellness program. Dogs Connect is an organisation that helps introduce a wellbeing dog into settings such as schools, hospitals, aged care and justice communities, to improve social and emotional balance. They work with your community to design long term, sustainable programs to integrate your dog. During his ten-year teaching career, Grant recognised that his students needed more from traditional education. He decided to create a program to help students feel more connected and engaged in their school environment. Grant’s great passion for education has driven him to research the benefits of and develop best practice when it comes to understanding and supporting wellbeing dogs in highly stimulating environments. He willingly shares his knowledge and scientific evidence, teaching communities how to improve mental health and wellbeing through authentic and reciprocal connection with dogs. Hundreds of communities are now witnessing first-hand the impact the program is having on wellbeing for all - and importantly the dogs.
