While we're typically seen as the go-to for tech or office supplies, we recently added a new craft range that's got people hooked – Yarn 🧶   Launched in select stores and online, we’re not sure if we have the DIY crochet fashion trend or a resurgence in knitting to thank for its early popularity.   The new range includes yarn, knitting needles and crochet hooks. And while the yarn comes in 22 colours, green, midnight blue and mustard have been the favourite colours so far.   Self-proclaimed “knitting addict” Brendan Girak from 'Knitwits and Yarns' jumped on board to create content to inspire others to get knitting: https://lnkd.in/gNNtW-q9   Yarn adds to our already significant art and craft supplies offer, cementing us as a destination for all creatives or hobbyists of all ages.   Below is a picture of talented team member Margaret Beggs from our Bunbury store in WA, with a crocheted masterpiece she created with the range. #Officeworks 💙

Some of our team helped plant over 3,700 seedlings at Deans Marsh in Victoria’s Otway Ranges recently, as part of a volunteer day for our Restoring Australia program 🌳 The planting will help to restore the property’s habitat along drainage lines that connect to swampy areas used by native birds, stabilise soils to reduce erosion through the drainage areas, and improve water quality flowing out, while also supporting the landholders and communities. Our Restoring Australia program sees us plant two trees for every one used, based on the weight of paper products purchased by our customers. Volunteer days provide an opportunity for our team members across the business to learn more about the program, meet local landholders and get their hands dirty. Launched in 2017 with partner Greening Australia, we’ve now planted 1.5 million trees and restored 1,990 hectares of habitat and landscape across the country. #Officeworks 💚

With our Literacy is Freedom Appeal wrapped up for another year, we wanted to take a moment to recognise everyone that generously donated, contributing to our final fundraising tally of more than $624,500. With this result, we will support 1,369 students in marginalised communities gain vital language, literacy and communication skills in the coming year through the incredible work of The Australian Literacy & Numeracy Foundation (ALNF). Thanks to our team members across 170 stores, customer fulfilment centres, customer service centre and support office, who so passionately got behind the cause and donate. And of course, thanks to our customers, who donated whilst shopping in store or online throughout the month of September. The tote bags are still available to purchase in stores for $5 each, with all proceeds from the sales going directly to the ALNF’s Literacy Pack Program. #Officeworks 💙

At Officeworks, we're committed to giving back and empowering our team to support causes that matter most to them and their communities. As part of our Make a Difference Appeal in June, we fundraised for My Room Children’s Cancer Charity. On Thursday night, our General Manager Store Operations & CSC, Brett Kelly, and Area Manager, Meagan Sands, attended the annual Nine My Room Telethon and proudly presented My Room CEO Margaret Zita OAM with a cheque for $100,000. This cause is especially close to our hearts. We recently lost a team member, Naomi, from our Frankston store in Victoria, after her courageous battle with cancer. This year's campaign was dedicated to honouring Naomi and her family, while supporting My Room in its vital mission to achieve a 100% cure rate for childhood cancer. To everyone who contributed, thank you for helping us make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families supported by My Room.  #Officeworks 💙

🌲🌳 With FSC Forest Week happening this week, we’ve been reflecting on our long-standing partnership with FSC Australia and New Zealand and our commitment to ensuring zero deforestation in our supply chain through our People & Planet Positive plan. We're proud to support the responsible sourcing of wood fibre, and through our FSC Promotional Licence, we demonstrate our dedication to protecting the world’s forests. By doing so, we help preserve ecosystems, communities, and wildlife that depend on these vital resources. FSC Forest Week is a global initiative dedicated to raising awareness about the significance of sustainable forestry. This year’s theme, ‘Small Steps Together Create Big Change for All,’ highlights how our everyday choices can protect the forests, creating lasting benefits for people and the planet 🌏 We look forward to sharing our progress in this space over the last 12 months as part of our People & Planet Positive report, coming soon. #Officeworks #FSCForestWeek 💚 Image credit: FSC® Australia and New Zealand, FSC Forest Walk 2023

After 12 years in the Officeworks family, last week we farewelled our General Manager People Alexandra Staley as she embarks on a new adventure within Wesfarmers at Kmart Australia Limited as Chief Corporate Affairs & Sustainability Officer. While we are sad to see such a compassionate, strategic, and trail-blazing leader leave, we are privileged to have worked with you, Alex. Congratulations on a remarkable career at Officeworks and thank you for your contribution. The business wouldn’t be where it is today, without you. Alex has handed over the reigns to Brad Ellis, who has been with Officeworks for nearly three years leading our People Strategy & Services team. Before joining Officeworks, Brad has held a number of senior positions at NAB, ANZ and Coles, including General Manager Health, Safety & Wellbeing, Acting Director People & Culture and General Manager HR Operations. Congratulations Brad on your appointment, we know we’ll go from strength to strength with your experience and leadership. #Officeworks 💙 Pictured below (L to R): Brad Ellis, Gina Dwyer (Ymer), Alexandra Staley and Kristy Elliott.

Working closely with our landlord, Vicinity Centres, the Chadstone Place office tower, which is home to our Support Office, is now an internationally celebrated model for zero carbon development. Chadstone Place, Melbourne, recently became the first Australian building to receive the prestigious Zero Carbon Certification from the International Living Future Institute (ILFI), underscoring both Vicinity and Officeworks’ commitment to sustainability and innovation. The ILFI’s Zero Carbon Certification is the world’s only performance-based standard for buildings that addresses both operational and embodied carbon emissions. Last night we were honoured to be recognised as a Finalist in the ‘Major Retailer of the Year’ category at the inaugural Australian Retailers Association (ARA) Australian Retail Awards. The category acknowledges businesses operating on a large scale, generating more than $500M in annual revenue. Congratulations to Bunnings, part of our wider Wesfarmers family, for taking home the award. Congratulations to all the finalists and winners across every category and a huge thank you to Australian Retailers Association (ARA) for putting on such a memorable evening. #Officeworks 💙
