The NSW Ombudsman has tabled the special report – Investigation into Inmate discipline in NSW correctional centres in Parliament of NSW today.    The report follows an investigation involving a systemic examination of how inmate discipline is managed across all correctional centres.     The investigation carried out a trend analysis of more than 57,000 inmate discipline charges determined between 2018 and 2023, and conducted an in-depth review of a sample of over 350 individual determinations.     The Ombudsman also tabled a separate report today – Investigation into actions taken against bystander inmates following an incident at Clarence Correctional Centre.     The report concerns an investigation into actions taken by the operator of Clarence Correctional Centre (Serco) against inmates who witnessed an assault on an officer by an inmate, at the centre in September 2023.     To read more about the findings and recommendations from both reports, download the media release and reports on our website: https://lnkd.in/gwUkztPq      #correctiveservices #inmatediscipline

The PID Unit recently launched its PID portal, which was made available to agencies on 25 June. The portal was developed to assist agencies to submit their 2023-24 PID annual return.    The Public Interest Disclosures Act 2022, which commenced on 1 October 2023, requires every agency to submit an annual return to the NSW Ombudsman. The annual return contains information about each voluntary PID an agency has received, or dealt with, in the return period. Agencies must also provide information about the measures taken to promote a culture in which PIDs are encouraged.      #NSWOmbo #PublicInterestDisclosures
