"Dear diary, During my three-month deployment as a physiotherapist at Gunnedah Community Health, I experienced a remarkable blend of professional growth and personal adventure. There was an exciting variety of work, and the challenge of operating as a sole practitioner allowed me to expand my skills and gain a deeper understanding of my field. The autonomy and responsibility were both stimulating and refreshing. Outside of work, I joined the local tennis club and enjoyed the social competition on Wednesday nights. It was the first time I'd played since primary school, and it was a joy to get back on the court and engage with the community. Additionally, I rekindled my love of trail running, with Porcupine Hill providing the perfect backdrop for this. The natural beauty and serenity of the trails offered a wonderful contrast to the construction going on at the hospital. Weekends were filled exploring Gamilaroi country and learning new skills. I spent time in the Warumbungles, where the clear, unpolluted skies offer some of the best stargazing opportunities in the country. The breathtaking scenery and views are truly awe-inspiring. I visited the nearby Pilliga Pottery, a fascinating and unique establishment located in the heart of the Pilliga Forest. I tried to find the artist in me and was invited to an incredible family dinner. Another one of the attractions of being in Gunnedah was the proximity of Lake Keepit Soaring Club - one of Australia's top glider training schools. The financial incentives allowed me to start learning to fly sailplanes, a dream I had long entertained but found difficult to pursue living in the city. Overall, my time at Gunnedah Community Health was a highly satisfying experience, both professionally and personally. The combination of challenging work, rewarding relationships with clients and colleagues, engaging activities, and the chance to pursue new interests made it an unforgettable period. I wholeheartedly recommend this opportunity to anyone. The unique blend of career advancement and personal enrichment is truly fulfilling. Thank you to NSW Health and Hunter New England Local Health District for the opportunity. Elissa” NSW Health offers 2-13 week opportunities for nurses, midwives and allied health professionals. Whooping cough is serious and activity is high in NSW, with cases highest in school aged children. To help stop the spread of whooping cough, please keep your kids home if they are sick. What is whooping cough? Whooping cough (also called pertussis) is a serious respiratory illness that spreads easily. It can be life threatening for babies, especially newborns. Whooping cough starts like a cold with a blocked or runny nose, sneezing, a mild fever and an occasional cough. Coughing bouts usually worsen and can cause uncontrollable coughing. It can last for many weeks and be worse at night. For more information about whooping cough symptoms visit: https://lnkd.in/gzhUdu_c If your child is unwell, call healthdirect day or night on 1800 022 222 and get your child the care they need.
