Last week, the Tamar Estuary and Esk Rivers (TEER) Program launched the 2024 kanamaluka / Tamar Estuary Report Card! This essential document provides insights into the health of our estuary's ecosystem. The TEER Program collected data from 16 sites along the estuary from December 2022 to November 2023. While the report shows some improvements in the estuary's health, more work still needs to be done. Everyone has a role in protecting the kanamaluka / Tamar estuary. It's vital that we continue to make science-based decisions for a healthier future. Explore the full report here: 👇 https://lnkd.in/g6CPyQ-Z

🌳Improving Midlands Biodiversity: stewardship and restoration NRM North is dedicated to preserving the unique biodiversity of central Tasmania's Midlands region. We're excited to partner with leading conservation organisations to protect threatened ecological communities and species. Here's a glimpse into this exciting project. The Midlands region of central Tasmania is home to several threatened ecological communities including native grasslands and woodlands. These provide important habitat for many threatened fauna and flora species, including critically endangered orchids. Partnering with the Landscape Recovery Foundation, Tasmanian Land Conservancy (TLC), Bush Heritage Australia, NRM North will build on work to protect and enhance ecological values on private land in the Midlands. We will establish new conservation agreements and habitat management plans to mitigate threats and improve outcomes for threatened species and ecological communities. Funding will also be available for stock fencing, revegetation, weed control and ecological burning. Learn more about this project here 👇 https://lnkd.in/ggPrDsKq #NrmNorth #NaturalHeritageTrust #NaturePositive #NaturePositiveAgenda #NaturePositiveAustralia, #Biodiversity #DCCEEW #NativeSpecies #SaveNativeSpecies #Conservation ------------------ This project is funded by the Australian Government Natural Heritage Trust and delivered by NRM North, a member of the Commonwealth Regional Delivery Partners panel.

New Biodiversity Project! We're embarking on an exciting journey to enhance and conserve habitats and protect unique wildlife. Although we're still in the early stages, we’re thrilled to give you a sneak peek into one of our new biodiversity projects. Giant freshwater crayfish: enhancing habitat conservation This project aims to expand previous efforts to recover existing populations of the giant freshwater crayfish (Astacopsis gouldi) by improving water quality and native streamside habitat connectivity in the Pipers, Greater Forester, and Little Forester catchments. Building on achievements from the previous Australian Government National Landcare-funded project, the 'Giant Freshwater Crayfish: Enhancing Habitat Conservation' Project will work with landholders to co-invest in on-ground habitat restoration works. 💛 ❤️ 🖤 Keep the fire burning! Blak, Loud and Proud! We pay respect to the Traditional Owners of Tasmania, the Tasmanian Aboriginal people, and acknowledge their continued survival and connection with their land, sea and sky Country that spans millennia. We acknowledge the many Nations of Tasmanian Aboriginal people, past and present, as the traditional and ongoing owners of their respective countries within Tasmania and the islands. We pay respect to those who have passed and acknowledge today’s Aboriginal people who are the custodians of this land. We acknowledge that all land, sea, and sky Country holds cultural values that provide strong and continuing significance to the Tasmanian Aboriginal people. We acknowledge that Tasmanian Aboriginal people are part of a continuous culture that holds traditional knowledge about the ecosystems we all depend on. The landscapes of Tasmania have been shaped by Aboriginal management of plants, animals, and water (particularly using fire). We acknowledge that colonisation and migration has caused injustice for Aboriginal people and impacted the living cultural landscape. This has created a legacy that we seek to improve. We are working to integrate Aboriginal cultural heritage and knowledge in natural resource management, and to develop better understanding of the cultural, environmental, social and economic dimensions of the region’s natural resources from the perspective of Aboriginal people. Through our work, we aim to reflect these values by recognising that Tasmanian Aboriginal people determine both the boundaries for the sharing of their cultural heritage and opportunities for participation in NRM activities that embrace and support their aspirations. We pay respect to Tasmanian Aboriginal people’s requirements to own, care and manage Country by aligning our strategic priorities to Tasmanian Aboriginal people’s land, sea and sky Country priorities. #KeepTheFireBurning #BlakLoudandProud #NAIDOC #NAIDOC2024 #NAIDOCWEEK

💛 ❤️ 🖤National NAIDOC Week celebrations. As part of our NAIDOC Week celebrations, we want to share the cultural significance of the ancient giant freshwater crayfish (astacopsis gouldi) species. The giant freshwater crayfish holds deep cultural and spiritual significance for many Tasmanian Aboriginal people. Its presence in local folklore and traditional stories reflects its enduring influence and reverence. 🌿 Conservation efforts are essential to protect this iconic species from habitat loss and pollution threats. NRM North is committed to integrating Aboriginal cultural heritage and knowledge into our natural resource management practices. By understanding the crayfish's role as a keystone species and its cultural significance, we strive to ensure its preservation and safeguard lutruwita's rich biodiversity. Through our work, we aim to reflect these values and support the aspirations of Tasmanian Aboriginal people. 💚 Together, we can forge a future where the stories, traditions, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities are cherished and celebrated.
