  • Airport Development Group hosts the AAA Safety and Emergency Management Forum in Alice Springs   Airport Development Group (ADG) had the great pleasure of hosting the Australian Airports Association (AAA) Safety and Emergency Management Forum earlier this week in Alice Springs. The annual forum brought together 38 industry delegates from across Australia and internationally to discuss, collaborate, and share experiences in aviation safety and emergency management.   This year’s event featured presentations from industry experts covering a wide range of topics, including: - Regulatory updates and initiatives - Industry collaboration and case studies - Wildlife hazard management - Emerging technologies in safety operations and emergency management One of the highlights of the forum was a presentation by the Australian Federal Police on their aviation coordination and strategy through the newly established Aviation Strategic Centre. The culmination of the two-day event was the Alice Springs Airport emergency exercise. This type of exercise is a legislative requirement which is undertaken every two years. The emergency exercise is designed to ensure that all agencies, including air traffic control, aviation rescue, firefighting services, government agencies, and medical responders, are well-coordinated and prepared for real-life emergencies.   Rob Porter GAICD, ADG Executive General Manager Operations, said, “The emergency exercise is essential for identifying any gaps in our Emergency Plan, clarifying roles and responsibilities, and improving inter-agency coordination. It also creates greater awareness and helps ensure that everyone involved is competent in their response to emergencies.   “Our aerodrome’s safety is paramount. Ensuring the safety of all people who pass through the airport is our top priority, and it’s vital that we regularly test our plans and readiness for any kind of aviation emergency.” “We’re thankful to the Airport Development Group for hosting this important forum that enhances Australia’s aviation safety knowledge,” AAA Chief Operating Officer Adrian Plumb said. “The opportunity for attendees to see the Emergency Management Exercise at Alice Springs Airport provided a first-hand look at the challenges faced by our industry.”

  • Airport Development Group hosts successful Australasian Inter-Airport Safety Forum in Darwin Airport Development Group (ADG) recently hosted the annual in-person meeting of the Australasian Inter-Airport Safety Forum at the Darwin Airport Resorts. Over the course of two days, delegates from 11 airports across Australia and New Zealand came together to engage in meaningful discussions, share experiences, and tackle critical topics, including airside safety, benchmarking, management structures, and critical risk control management. The annual forum, which is a significant event for Airport safety specialists, places a strong emphasis on operational safety, underscoring the importance of safeguarding the well-being of all who interact with airport environments—ranging from airport staff and contractors to travellers. Attendees exchanged best practices and strategies aimed at enhancing the safety and well-being of everyone within airport facilities. A notable highlight of the forum was the presentation of ADG’s Indigenous Engagement Strategy, along with a guided tour of the Gurambai Cultural Trail. This tour, led by ADG’s Indigenous and Community Project Manager, Rychelle Vines, in collaboration with Larrakia Nation cultural liaison manager and Larrakia Land and Sea Ranger representatives, provided delegates with an immersive experience and a deeper understanding of the cultural significance of the Larrakia Nation's connection to the land. The partnership between ADG and the Larrakia Nation exemplifies the importance of working together to celebrate cultural heritage and foster mutual respect. Sandra De Kock, Executive General Manager, People, Culture, and Community at ADG, commented, “Airport Development Group has long supported inter-airport forums as they offer an invaluable opportunity for networking, sharing experiences, and generating new ideas. No matter the size of your airport, we all face similar challenges and can learn from one another.” “Safety and well-being are fundamental aspects of airport operations. Through this forum, our delegates not only gain new insights and connect with their peers, but they also get to experience the unique offerings of Darwin,” added Ms. De Kock. A key outcome of the forum was the in-principal agreement to develop a series of universally applicable templates for health, safety, and well-being at airports. These templates will be designed to address both operational-level safety and the safety of those using the airport. “The sharing of ideas and achieving consensus on such a critical aspect of our business was a major outcome of the two days. There was a strong willingness from all participants to pursue a more efficient , consistent, and effective approach to capturing and resolving safety issues,” said Ms. De Kock. ANU Indigenous Diplomacy Workshop – Delivering on Indigenous Engagement Strategy The Australian National University (ANU) and Charles Darwin University (CDU) recently hosted their latest Indigenous Diplomacy Workshop in Canberra. Airport Development Group (ADG) was proud to be among the 25 delegates at this three-day event. This workshop, held on the lands of the Ngambri-Ngunawal people, is a collaboration between ANU, CDU, and elders from across the Northern Territory, Far North Queensland, Canberra, and regional New South Wales. It aims to raise awareness and deepen understanding of Indigenous Diplomacy practices. The event featured a range of presentations, seminars, and interactive sessions on topics like Indigenous Women and Diplomacy, Indigenous Rights at the UN, and Indigenous Development and the Sustainable Development Goals. ADG’s Indigenous and Community Projects Manager, Rychelle Vines, shared her insights: “The forum provided the opportunity to gain a deep understanding of the importance of, and how Indigenous diplomacy can be achieved, from community leaders was extremely valuable and insightful. Being at the table and discussing important issues relating to Indigenous Diplomacy, from a broad cross-section of delegates from government and academia was also significant.” The workshop provided a platform for ADG to further develop its Indigenous Engagement Strategy, focusing on education, employment opportunities, Indigenous participation, tourism enhancement, and cultural engagement. Event host, Wiradjuri man James Blackwell from ANU, remarked: “It’s always a great privilege to host these workshops on Indigenous Diplomacy with elders from across the continent, and to continue our overall great working relationship with them and with CDU. Sharing our cultures and creating understanding between us as Indigenous peoples and those in government, corporate, and academic spaces foster change at all levels. Indigenous peoples have been engaging in diplomacy across this continent for millennia, and programs such as this allow us to showcase that, while educating on respectful Indigenous community engagement.” ADG is looking forward to future participation in Indigenous Diplomacy Workshops and continuing our collaboration with CDU and ANU. Darwin International Airport (DIA), like other airports, is managing the impacts of a global IT network outage.   Flight delays are anticipated. Passengers should contact their airline to confirm the status of their flight before travelling to the airport.   DIA is working to resolve this issue as soon as possible to minimisedisruptions to travellers.   DIA appreciates the patience of all travellers while this global issue is resolved.   Alice Springs Airport and Tennant Creek Airport are not currently experiencing delays.

🌍 Level 3 Airport Carbon Accreditation – Darwin International Airport Moves Closer to Net Zero by 2030 🌍 We're excited to announce that the Airport Development Group (ADG) has achieved Level 3 – Optimisation status in the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) program for Darwin International Airport (DIA). This recognition by Airports Council International (ACI) reflects our dedication to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2030. This marks DIA's first participation in the program, with a 12-month accreditation process that showcases our commitment to reducing emissions. Key investments include onsite renewable energy, LED lighting upgrades, and hybrid/electric vehicles. DIA is one of 16 accredited airports in Australia and the only one in the Northern Territory, joining 576 airports globally in demonstrating effective carbon management and climate initiatives. Training, awareness, and stakeholder engagement are at the core of our carbon reduction efforts. Sandra De Kock, our Executive GM – People, Culture, and Community, highlights, "We have made a conscious decision to actively focus on reducing our carbon footprint and engaging with key stakeholders." Mr. Stefano Baronci, Director General, ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East, congratulates us: “This shows the airport's commitment to contributing towards our industry's vision of net zero emissions. We hope other airports will follow suit.” Reaching Level 3 required expanding our carbon footprint assessment to include emissions from activities influenced by DIA but controlled by others, such as aircraft emissions and ground transport. ADG remains committed to managing and reducing its carbon emissions, continuing to invest in sustainable initiatives. Join us on this journey to a greener future!
