The call for action is in 5 key areas to address #arthritis and other musculoskeletal conditions makes sense and is not an unrealistic ask. 1. Funding and enabling delivery of cost-effective, coordinated #lifestyle #behavioural models of care for arthritis and other musculoskeletal conditions, with equitable access for #rural #remote and #regional and priority populations 2. More #affordableaccess to #alliedhealthcare for Australians who need it including and importantly #rural #remote 3. Support for #consumer #education and health system navigation and #literacy 4. Supporting and enabling the #multidisciplinaryworkforce to provide better care, including addressing #workforceshortages 5. Funding an #arthritis and #musculoskeletal research Mission that is commensurate with the disease burden and economic impact of these conditions National Rural Health Alliance Mark Butler Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care
“Investing in early, evidence-based care for osteoarthritic conditions is essential to reducing the incidence of orthopaedic surgery in Australia. With over $2 billion spent annually on healthcare costs directly related to osteoarthritis, including knee and hip replacement surgery, there is an urgent need to prioritise funding for preventative measures that can delay or even prevent these surgeries. By doing so, we can improve patient outcomes and reduce the financial strain on our healthcare system." President Michael Johnson has echoed the call of an AOA-led coalition of patient-advocacy groups for increased investment in nonoperative care, which will ease the pressure of osteoarthritic care on the health budget while improving outcomes for Australian patients. AOA joined a meeting last week in Canberra led by Arthritis Australia, where more than 90 consumers and health leaders met with ministers and politicians, focused on the huge burden of musculoskeletal conditions. These conditions affect one in three Australians, and they’re the leading cause of chronic pain and early retirement due to ill health. AOA Vice-President Scott Fletcher strongly supports this urgent advocacy work: “Orthopaedic surgical care provides immense benefit to tens of thousands of Australians every year, but our surgeons recognise the deep value of non-operative management and its crucial role in musculoskeletal care. We must support and amplify the work carried out by our peers at Arthritis Australia and other expert groups in collaboration with patients and our members: evidence-based management of osteoarthritic conditions needs significantly improved support, and soon.” Read more about the meeting, the ongoing advocacy work it connects to, and the impact of insufficient funding on patients through the full communique on the Arthritis Australia website: https://lnkd.in/gjCRTijJ

#Patients who cannot access primary care due to cost #waitlists or no #services being available often attend #free #emergencyservices for their #primarycare via their local #hospital. It isn't ideal and cloggs up the system for those who really need emergency treatment. This #survey will provide insight. Please take part in the survey
The Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care , in collaboration with the Nous Group , is conducting a vital survey. The goal is to streamline pathways to urgent primary care and enhance awareness of alternatives to emergency departments, ultimately improving patient experiences and alleviating pressures on our health system. This research will explore the potential for a "virtual front door" to guide patients directly to the most appropriate care options. By participating, you can help shape services that meet the diverse needs of our communities, including those in rural, regional, and remote areas, as well as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Your insights are invaluable. Help us make healthcare more accessible and efficient for everyone.
