Together, we stand with Australians in need until they can stand for themselves.

About us

Mission Australia is a national Christian charity motivated by a shared vision of an Australia where everyone has a safe home and can thrive. Since 1859, we’ve been standing alongside people in need across Australia, offering real hope that has lasting impact. Backed by our supporters, churches, partners and funders, we work together for the long-term wellbeing of anyone who needs us, reflecting our values of respect, compassion, integrity, perseverance and celebration. We collaborate with people experiencing homelessness or disadvantage to tackle the root causes of their challenges through providing access to safe, affordable homes and innovative, evidence-based support services. Every day we deliver homelessness crisis and prevention services, provide social and affordable housing, assist struggling families and children, address mental health issues, fight substance dependencies, support people with disability and much more. Mission Australia believes a person’s circumstances shouldn’t define their future and that given the right support, everyone can reach their full potential. That’s why we stand together with Australians in need, until they can stand for themselves.

From workplace giving to leaving a gift in her Will, Mandy’s heart of gold shines brightly this Include a Charity Week. 💛 Grateful for her family and role models, Mandy reflects on how their love and support empowered her to seize opportunities. Her mother’s bold decision in the early 70s to leave an unhappy marriage instilled in Mandy a deep appreciation for the courage it takes to overcome challenges. Throughout her life, Mandy has embraced every opportunity to help others, from workplace giving to supporting friends in need. Her daughter Sophie shares this passion and reflects the same caring and determined spirit. Mandy is proud of Sophie’s commitment to making a difference and believes in empowering others to reach their full potential. “I think if you can help someone you should. I feel blessed to have had my family around me growing up where I always felt loved and supported; there are so many people who have not had this in their lives,” says Mandy. This philosophy aligns with Mission Australia’s vision, and it’s why Mandy has chosen to leave a gift in her Will. “I hope my contribution will open doors for others, providing them with the opportunities they need to shine.” *Pictured: Mandy (left) with her daughter Sophie (right) This Include a Charity Week, learn how you can make an impact: https://lnkd.in/gmHbJmSS

Mission Australia welcomes the opening of the Walgett Women’s Safe House, a new refuge providing much-needed crisis accommodation and support for women and children fleeing domestic violence in the region.    Managed by Mission Australia, the safe house and comprises five houses with an office on site. Residents will have access to on-site, wrap-around support from Mission Australia staff including counselling and legal assistance. Construction of the safe house was made possible thanks to a $5.25 million investment by NSW Department of Communities and Justice.  Thanks to MP Jodie Harrison and Sally Ascroft for attending the opening, along with local Aboriginal elders and the Walgett community. The Walgett Women’s Safe House ensures that women and their children can remain connected to their communities while being supported by Mission Australia as they start to rebuild their lives.

We took more than 2.2 million steps towards safe homes Earlier this month, we shared our teams were participating in Mission Australia's Steps for Safe Homes Challenge. We’re pleased to report that we have taken over 2.2 million steps to collectively raise $21,403! Thank you to all who generously donated and our teams who “stepped up” to the challenge.    So, where will the funds go? Our purpose is for all Australians to own their own home, but we know not everyone is fortunate enough to have a place to call their own. We’re pleased to say the funds will go towards transitional accommodation services for families that are experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness. These include Douglas House (Cairns) and Fairfax House (Sydney).     Over a 6-month period, each facility can see as many as 130 families find care and assistance. Alongside safe accommodation, Mission Australia offers wrap around support including ongoing case management, counselling, medical support, and training to help people on their journey to independence.    A special shout out and thank you to all team members who participated in the challenge, getting up early or walking into the night to complete your step goals. We walked our dogs, spotted some Australian wildlife, strolled to the coffee shop and enjoyed the views of Sydney Harbour and beyond.
