We're boosting our commitment to urgent humanitarian aid in Gaza to more than AUD$40 million, with a focus on supporting partners delivering meals to those on the edge of famine. Today, Minderoo announced US$5 million in funding for World Central Kitchen helping provide over 1.5 million meals in Gaza. Another US$5 million will go to the United Nations' World Food Programme. There will also be a US$2.5 million contribution to help address the serious health risks caused by water scarcity and inadequate sanitation via UNICEF Australia, and we are increasing last mile delivery capacity through Anera and Global Empowerment Mission. Since October 2023, Minderoo has been helping tens of thousands of people in Gaza by providing safe water, sanitation, medical supplies, consultations, and food aid. Nicola Forrest AO shared, “It is heartbreaking to see the suffering of civilians in Gaza, especially children, who suffer disproportionately as innocent victims of conflict.” Dr. Andrew Forrest AO is calling for more support to help families and children in Gaza. “We want to see the philanthropic and private sector respond more strongly to the humanitarian needs in Gaza.” Stay updated on our work and impact – subscribe to our e-news: https://bit.ly/4dc6tAp 📸 Dr. Andrew Forrest with Erin Gore, CEO of World Central Kitchen 📸 Images from the ground in Gaza supplied by World Central Kitchen

From the stage to her hometown, Tara Gower is turning her passion for dance into a powerful force for change. After 15 years with Bangarra Dance Theatre, this Yawuru woman is back in Broome, building the town’s first Indigenous dance studio with the help of a Minderoo Artist Fund grant. Work to safely remove all damaged spars, rigging and masts from STS Leeuwin II is now complete but it's still too early to determine a detailed timeline of any repairs to Leeuwin. Thank you to the volunteers whose dedication and generosity make the Leeuwin a truly community-run operation. Along with the support of the entire WA community, they are the lifeblood of the Leeuwin. It will be community support that ultimately sees the Leeuwin sail again and return to providing life-changing experiences for generations of young Western Australians.

On the first day of Climate Week in New York, we brought together delegations and ministers to discuss how the latest research on human health can shape a Global Plastics Treaty that can protect human health and the environment and ensure a just transition. With the final INC-5 meeting fast-approaching in Busan this November, it has never been more critical to unite and ensure we secure a dynamic and robust treaty. We were honoured to have Judith Enck (President of Beyond Plastics) host an esteemed panel, including President Surangel Whipps, Jr, of Palau, Dr Phil Landrigan, Boston College / Author of the Minderoo-Monaco Report, Dr Luisa Cortat, Course Director for Environmental Law at the Academy of European Law and Jo Banner, Co-Founder of the Descendants Project. Together, we discussed shaping a dynamic and robust Global Plastics Treaty that: 💪 protects children’s health and their future 💪 provides government and industry with regulatory certainty 💪 supports a just transition and funds innovation and more health research. Artist Ben Von Wong closed the event with participants from around the world united in agreement that a dynamic and robust Global Plastics Treaty is essential to securing a healthy planet for future generations. Today, at the United Nations HQ, we announced almost $6 million in funding for 10 new research projects to explore the impact of humidity on human survival, food security, and climate migration, along with developing a global early warning system to help protect vulnerable communities from climate shocks. As the planet warms and water evaporates from oceans and waterways, rising humidity levels are driving increasingly frequent and dangerous humid heatwaves, identified by the United Nations IPCC as one of the greatest immediate hazards posed by climate change. These projects will be led by members of the Lethal Humidity Global Council, a collaboration of climate scientists and experts from leading institutions, including Tsinghua University, NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Harvard University, University of Cambridge, University of Oxford and the Indian Institute of Technology. Leading experts from the Lethal Humidity Global Council also signed a statement calling for business and government to adopt Real Zero targets. Join us in making a difference. Big news – we’ve joined forces with 'Team Australia' to contribute to the Cancer Quad Moonshot, announcing $13.1 million in funding this weekend to help ensure women and girls in the Indo-Pacific have access to lifesaving cervical cancer screening, vaccination, and treatment. Announced at the 2024 Quad Leaders’ Summit in Delaware, this reflects our dedication to accelerating the WHO’s strategy to eliminate cervical cancer. Through the Elimination Partnership in the Indo-Pacific for Cervical Cancer (EPICC), we’ll leverage Australian and international expertise, working closely with in-country partners to roll out this program across up to 11 countries. This brings our total commitment to nearly $22 million, significantly advancing the partnership. Building on the success in the Western Pacific, led by Professor Karen Canfell AC, EPICC will screen over 160,000 women in the region in the next four years. We’ll also support the establishment of national programs to sustain cervical cancer elimination efforts for generations to come. Cervical cancer is preventable and curable but disproportionately affects women in low- and middle-income countries. Together with partners and communities, we’re working towards a future where cervical cancer is no longer a threat – in the Indo-Pacific and beyond. Want to stay informed on our work and impact? This week, the Productivity Commission released its final report on early childhood education and care, marking a major milestone for our Thrive by Five campaign. The report aligns with our vision for a universal, accessible system for all children as well as recommending the abolition of the Activity Test and empowering Aboriginal community-controlled services. These changes have the potential to be life-changing for families across Australia. But our work continues. Thrive by Five is calling on the Government to take it a step further—by legally enshrining the right to early learning and capping out-of-pocket childcare fees at $10/day. Together, we can create a fairer, more inclusive early childhood education system for every Australian child. Great news for families in Katanning! Thanks to a collaborative, community-driven effort, the Katanning Early Childhood Hub is moving forward, bringing 67 long-daycare places and essential services to the Central Great Southern. This initiative, supported by the Early Years Partnership, will give parents and families easier access to the support they need to give their children the best start in life. This milestone is made possible by partnerships between local families, the Government of Western Australia, The Kids Research Institute Australia and Minderoo Foundation. Today’s announcement of a $1.6 million boost from the Cook Government brings the total investment to $9.5M, showing the power of working together to nurture healthier, happier futures for our children.

Today the Pathways to Politics for Women 2024 WA cohort delivered their stump speeches at Parliament House. As expected, the speeches were as incredible as the women themselves; the group spoke with passion and conviction about their broad yet equally important political priorities, beautifully representing the needs of WA’s many communities. From Edith Cowan to Carmen Lawrence AO and Carol Martin OAM, Western Australia has a rich history of women trailblazers in politics. Programs like Pathways to Politics for Women are critical to strengthening our democracy and building a more inclusive and equitable society. It’s a great joy to see the program now up and running in WA 👏 Congratulations to The University of Western Australia, the UWA Public Policy Institute and the Centre For Public Value UWA for hosting this year’s inaugural program. Thank you to the University of Melbourne, in collaboration with Women’s Leadership Institute and Trawalla Foundation for pioneering this initiative. It’s been our absolute pleasure to support the attendance of this year’s regional attendees.
