On board the #GlobalMercy, Hassan was treated for an abdominal hernia – the same problem that took his father's life just a few years earlier. For 15-year-old Hassan, successful surgery meant being able to step up as the man of the house to take care of his mother and sister. Grateful but nervous, Hassan described the moments before his surgery began; "The first thing they told me was not to be afraid or panic, and that I should relax. Then they gave me a bed and a warm blanket. The nurses gave me oxygen to breathe and after I breathed three or four times, I went to sleep... When I woke up, the surgery was completely over." Lucy was the first patient Jeri cared for while #volunteering on board the #GlobalMercy. Jeri gets emotional as she remembers dancing and celebrating with the 14-year-old, who received surgery to remove a life-threatening tumour from her face. “I think now, she can do whatever she wants,” Jeri said. “I think she can do anything.
