A good news story for Friday: travellers with assistance dogs will have a bit of an easier time flying Qantas, thanks to Maurice Blackburn's social justice lawyers, client Rachael Fullerton, and Strike (pictured). Rachael wanted to fly Qantas, and she needed Strike to come with her. But although Virgin and Rex airlines could accommodate this, Qantas refused. We took Qantas on, and now they've agreed to change their procedures. You can read more about it here: https://brnw.ch/21wOsQm This is a great outcome, but as MB's Bridie Murphy says, more change is needed. "While this outcome is a step in the right direction, there is still a lot to be done. "This entire case could have been avoided if there were clear national standards for assistance animal accreditation and disability standards for the aviation industry in particular."

Last week, we spoke at the Australian Services Union (ASU) Delegates Conference about recent changes affecting ASU members. MB Senior Associate Sarah Notarianni provided tips on supporting members and explained how the WorkCover Modernisation laws will impact the ability to make a successful mental injury claim. We have a long and proud history of supporting ASU and its members. We are committed to workplace safety and the need to address the root causes of workplace injuries through early intervention and prevention. For work-related injuries, it’s crucial for members to seek advice from their union and Maurice Blackburn to ensure they know their rights and receive the best support available.

November is Asbestos Awareness Month. Too many Australians have been killed and injured by exposure to this deadly mineral. It's banned in Australia – but remains an ever-present danger. Home renovators are at risk. It's in walls, roofs and concrete sheets throughout the country. It contaminates scrap, mulch and demolition sites. Every day, we represent sufferers of asbestos-related diseases in their legal battles for justice and compensation. Throughout November, we'll be publishing content about asbestos: our clients who've been affected by it, their rights, and some of the lesser-known stories from the global struggle to eliminate this killer substance. Watch this incredible story about how asbestos killed three generations of men from one working-class Australian family. And read about it on our website: 👉 Bert's story: how asbestos destroyed three generations https://brnw.ch/21wOhR9 👉 What diseases can asbestos cause? https://brnw.ch/21wOhRa 👉 What all renovators need to know about asbestos https://brnw.ch/21wOhRb

A fresh investigation by Queensland Health has unveiled a troubling report on the substandard care provided at Redland Hospital’s endoscopy and colonoscopy services. In May 2020, the investigation reviewed the treatment of more than 3,000 patients and scrutinised the bowel-related procedures performed by two doctors at Redland Hospital between 2008 and 2018. "The consequences of medical negligence, including delays in diagnosis, are usually profound and devastating. We have represented clients with medical negligence claims after delays in the diagnosis of a variety of cancers, including bowel cancer," MB's Kirsten Van Der Wal says. When Eliza felt ill, she was told it was nothing more than the symptoms of pregnancy. She kept going back to the emergency department - and kept being sent home. But it was the wrong diagnosis. Eliza had stomach cancer. And when doctors investigated further, they found that the cancer had been picked up on a test a year earlier - but the test results hadn't been passed on. The error had a catastrophic impact on Eliza and her family. Medical negligence can change lives. Read about it on our blog: https://brnw.ch/21wOdsA

We were honoured to sponsor the 30th Anniversary of the Affirmative Action rules, a pioneering initiative that has profoundly influenced the landscape of women in politics. This milestone is a momentous occasion, reflecting the significant strides we’ve made together towards gender equality. We were thrilled to have MB's Jessica D. speak alongside Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan at the event. It’s a great privilege to support EMILY's List Australia, the leading financial, political, and personal support network for progressive women in Australian politics. By backing EMILY’s List, we enable them to take the lead in empowering women candidates, ensuring their voices are heard and their impact is felt in parliaments nationwide.
