Critical infrastructure assets and networks are attractive targets for malicious cyber activity as they hold sensitive information, maintain essential services, and often have high levels of connectivity with other organisations and critical infrastructure sectors. The interconnected nature of critical infrastructure networks, and the third parties in their ICT supply chain, increases the attack surface for many entities. This is why it is so important for critical infrastructure organisations to stay ahead of the game and implement safe cyber security practices and technology, to help mitigate the risks posed by malicious cyber actors. ASD’s ACSC has a range of resources and new guidance for critical infrastructure organisations and their supply chains, including: - Secure-by-Design Foundations to help integrate security measures throughout the entire creation, and use of digital products and services. - Best practices for event logging and threat detection to improve the security and resilience of your systems. - Operational Technology (OT) principles to consider in designing, implementing, and managing cyber security risks in OT environments. - Advice on how to mitigate identified gaps, as well as detect and hunt for common living off the land activity. - Cyber supply chain risk management practices. - ASD’s Blueprint for Secure Cloud online tool to support creation of cyber secure cloud and hybrid workspaces. From the bottom of our hearts, Silvio Cesare and I want to extend our deepest thanks to everyone who made BSides Canberra 2024 such an unforgettable event. Whether you spoke, hosted, volunteered, sponsored or attended, you helped shape an amazing experience this year. This year, we hit a major milestone with 3,150 people registered! To accommodate the growth, we expanded our space and experimented with new ideas. The official party alone was a huge success, with a bartab of $70,000 making it a memorable night! A special thank you to those involved in our Assistance Program, which enabled 11 deserving individuals to join us with full support for flights, accommodation, and tickets. We’re proud to have such an inclusive community that supports one another. We were blown away by the generosity of our CTF teams, with all placing teams donating their winnings to next year's Assistance Program! A shout-out also to the Blackbag 2nd place winners, who also graciously contributed to this cause. It’s the strength, passion, and cleverness of this community that continues to impress and inspire us year after year. The commitment to inclusivity and collaboration is what makes BSides Canberra truly special. ❤️ We can’t wait to see you all again in 2025! #BSidesCanberra #Cybersecurity #Community #CTF #Inclusivity #ThankYou

Redacted Information Security have delivered again with an absolute blast of a Black Bag Challenge at BSides Canberra. I don't believe many other CTF challenges will induce the anxiety I felt holding a plank over the goofy Roomba, trick me into happily volunteering to drag my face along the floor to dodge lasers or mess around with c2 infra out of work hours. Love competing in this every year with my homies the Root Raiders (Ian Szklinski, Jai Ghorpade, Mamoon Azam and Daniel H.), and hopefully next year we can score a few more points so that a first place tiebreak isn't needed (although I'm still pretty stoked to have taken out third)! Mad props specifically to Mamoon Azam for figuring out the SDR challenge, learning everything required on the fly and solving the challenge for us and Jai Ghorpade for somehow not being flagged as suspicious when following someone despite the caterpillar on his upper lip.

What a week between obtaining OSCP and going to BSides Canberra 2024! 🎉 It kicked off on Monday when I started my OffSec OSCP exam attempt at 8 am. After an intense few days, I finished the exam on Wednesday at 5 am, and by 11 am, I was already on my way to BSidesCBR. Then, on Friday morning, I received the news I had been waiting for, I passed! Lots of preparation paid off, and I’m beyond excited to move forward with this achievement. At BSidesCBR, the highlights just kept coming. I met up with three of my colleagues (Bradley Butler MSc, Marianne Cologon and Shauneel Kumar) from my new company, Mantel Group, which was great after so much virtual collaboration. I had been working with Alex Brown on one of his incredible web challenges prior to the event, and it was exciting to see it go live as part of the Cybears CTF on Thursday. Supporting the Cybears team and seeing everything come together was an awesome experience. One of the biggest highlights for me at BSidesCBR this year was competing in the BlackBag competition by Redacted Information Security. For the second year in a row, it’s been a standout event for me. I teamed up with friends (Mischa Tanne, Peter S., Riyush Ghimire, Animesh Acharya and Benjamin E.) from Skylight Cyber Security, Tanto Security, and Mantel Group, and our team, "Howdy," made it through all the preliminary challenges, finishing in a six-way tie for first place. After a close decision by the judges, we secured second place—a result we’re all really proud of. 🥈 It’s been a week filled with hard work, learning, and fun. Huge thanks to everyone involved especially Kylie McDevitt and Silvio Cesare for an incredible BSidesCBR as always for making it such a rewarding experience. Looking forward to what’s next! #OSCP #BSidesCBR24 #CTF
