We are proud to be a part of the communities within our service region. Each fortnight over 40 staff contributes part of their wage to a staff charity fund. These funds go to local not-for-profit organisations who work tirelessly to provide services and support to individuals and families in our community. This July, we proudly donated part of the funds to Sunraysia Cancer Resources and Mallee Sexual Assault Unit & Domestic Violence Services.

Meet Frank Ballard - Mechanical Maintenance Operator Originally from Melbourne, Frank and his family moved to Mildura over 25 years ago to chase warmer weather. Frank started his career at 16, training as a motor mechanic and owning his own business for 7 years before joining Lower Murray Water. Frank has been part of our mechanical maintenance team for over 22 years now in the same position he started in. Frank has enjoyed training many apprentices over the years, passing on valuable knowledge to the next generation. This is just one of the things Frank enjoys about his work. "I enjoy the variety of work we do, and of course, the people I get to work with makes getting up every day to come to work easier", Frank said. When Frank isn't working, he is spending time with his family and planning trips away in the caravan.

The Board of Lower Murray Water (LMW) has announced it will be conducting a review of its rural and irrigation services and setting a new Rural Masterplan for its Nyah to SA Border region. “We see this as a significant opportunity for Lower Murray Water to plan for how we see irrigation and rural water services will be provided in decades to come” said Chair of the LMW Board, Sharyon Peart. “There has been significant change in our region over the past decades which has seen major changes to the crops grown in our region and the services that are required from an irrigation provider such as LMW.” “Urban encroachment has left some of our old irrigation and drainage assets stranded. The volatility of domestic and export markets and recent political factors including water buybacks already have and will continue to influence the rural customer profile and future water service requirements that LMW need to consider.” She said The development of the Masterplan will enable LMW to assess rural services to identify efficiencies within the system, opportunities for further investment or the removal of old infrastructure. $550,000 in funding has been received from the Victorian Government for the development of the Masterplan. LMW will utilise its newly appointed Strategic Advisory Committee (SAC) to ensure that engagement with stakeholders including irrigation and stock & domestic customers, first nations and environmental groups as well as planning authorities is maximised to enable a range of perspectives to be considered in incorporated within the new Masterplan. Lower Murray Water will be completing the masterplan over the next 18 months with a final document released by June 2026. “We’re supporting Lower Murray Water to plan for the future through their Rural Masterplan 2050 that will set out a clear direction for the region’s irrigation and rural services to best meet the future needs of customers”, said Minister for Water, Harriet Shing.

Meet Ellie Page, Customer Service Lead based in our Kerang office. Ellie commenced with Lower Murray Water in April 2001 as an Administration Assistant. In 2008, the Kerang office became a one-person part-time operation with Ellie taking over the running of the office alone and given more daily tasks. Ellie has held several different positions in Customer Service and Revenue in her 23 years at LMW which has led to her current role as Customer Service Lead in 2024. When asked what she enjoys most about working at LMW, she said “I can never be sure what each day will bring as each phone call generates a different task. The opportunity to assist our customers can be challenging but is more often satisfying and I enjoy my role.” Ellie most enjoys the Customer Service side of her work, helping customers with their enquiries whether that’s on the phone or in person. You can see Ellie’s friendly face from 8.30am to 12.30pm Monday to Friday for all your customer service needs in Kerang!
