All Australians actively caring for the land and water that sustains us

About us

There are approximately 6,000 volunteer environmental groups across Australia that fall under the Landcare umbrella. Where possible, and through the support of our corporate and philanthropic partners, Landcare Australia provides resources and distributes funding to these groups, while also raising awareness of the Landcare movement through national promotional campaigns including Landcare Week and the National Landcare Awards. Landcare Australia brokers partnerships with corporate and government which enable the organisation to administer grants programs for groups around the country, helping ensure that a difference can continue to be made at grass roots level.

Landcare Australia is taking a pause to acknowledge World Mental Health Day. 🌍🧠 The overall objective of World Mental Health Day is to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and to mobilize efforts in support of mental health. 🌿💬 The landcare movement is all about connecting and growing community as well as the landscape and environment and fostering a deeper understanding of nature. 🌱🤝 Volunteering with a landcare group has been shown to improve mental and physical health for many. 💪😊 There are also many ways to get involved – from rolling up your sleeves and getting stuck into planting and revegetation, 🌳🌻 to helping with bush, river, and beach clean-ups, 🏞️🏖️ to back-office support, helping to organize the group. 📋✨ Consider getting involved with a local landcare group or environmental community group near you, and feel the difference being outdoors with nature and caring for the environment with other like-minded people can bring. 🌿🤗 Building resilience in local communities: The wellbeing benefits of participating in Landcare is available to read and download at: https://lnkd.in/gK_AEg7C

🌍🐨 Happy World Animal Day! 🐾 Today, we celebrate the incredible diversity of native wildlife that call Australia home. From birdlife and insects to the vibrant marine life in the Great Barrier Reef, landcare volunteers are working all year round on projects to enhance and protect native habitats. This year’s theme, "The world is their home too," reminds us that our unique Australian species share this land with us. 🌿 Taking action with environmental conservation and sustainable land management activities helps landcare groups and other community volunteers to care for their local environment. What native animal are you protecting in your community? #WorldAnimalDay #ProtectOurWildlife #AustralianAnimals #TheWorldIsTheirHomeToo #LandcareAustralia World Animal Day

What a month! Together our people took more than 2 billion steps across Bupa Asia Pacific as part of our Healthy Cities Challenge… Smashing our target by more than 100%. In total, we had 13,500 people participate in the Challenge, with people from across our business, our friends and family, along with some of our corporate and community partners all getting active to support investment in nature along with giving a boost to their own physical and mental health. As part of these efforts, more than $1 million will be invested towards projects being undertaken by our regeneration partners Landcare Australia, Trees That Count and A Plastic Ocean Foundation. Thank you to everyone who got involved by getting active for a healthy planet for healthy people.

Landcare Australia acknowledges Mental Health Awareness Month. This year’s theme, “Let’s Talk About It,” prompts us all to reflect on our mental health and overall wellbeing, irrespective of whether we’ve personally encountered mental illness. It’s no secret that for decades, those involved in Landcare have testified to a greater sense of self, both physically and mentally, resulting from an enhanced connection with their local environment. This in turn has boosted community wellbeing and it had long been the desire of the landcare movement to quantify the significance of these benefits. So how did we do this? We worked in partnership with KPMG Australia to produce a unique Landcare study which we published in 2021 titled “Building resilience in local communities: The wellbeing benefits of participating in Landcare”. This report surveyed more than 1,000 Landcare volunteers and coordinators from Landcare groups. KPMG Australia also interviewed people involved in different landcare activities from across the country. In the survey, almost half of all participants surveyed, 46 per cent, reported clear improvements in their mental wellbeing. The report demonstrates participation in Landcare can lead to significant mental and physical wellbeing benefits through increased connection with people, communities and the environment. It also contains compelling data suggesting substantial improvements in wellbeing can lead to savings in healthcare costs for individuals involved in landcare activities. Landcare Australia congratulates the newly formed Indigenous Country and Biodiversity Alliance. This is their announcement: We are pleased to announce the newly formed Indigenous Country and Biodiversity Alliance (ICBA). ICBA aims to ground biodiversity management in Indigenous practices and Culture to ensure the best outcomes for Country, our people and the world. ICBA is made up of Indigenous organisations working across Australia, including the North Australian Indigenous Land and Sea Management Alliance, the Indigenous Desert Alliance, Kimberley Land Council, and the Aboriginal Carbon Foundation. We aim to change the mainstream paradigm on how biodiversity is managed as the new Nature Repair Market comes into being. We see this as a real opportunity to ensure that Indigenous people are involved in every step of the new market's development, implementation and accessibility to maximise the biodiversity, cultural and financial core benefits of the market. With 80% of the world's biodiversity found on the lands of Indigenous Peoples, and 10% of that global biodiversity located in Australia, this creates a huge responsibility for us all to maintain and improve this, not just for Australia but for the whole world. ICBA will be represented at the Global Nature Positive Summit coming up in Sydney in October, for those attending we look forward to connecting at the Summit.
