With 200 new jobs created, today we proudly expanded our footprint in Sydney’s West with the grand opening of our latest Kmart store in St Marys. Joining John Gualtieri, Chief Executive Officer for Kmart Australia and New Zealand at the store opening, was Deputy Premier of New South Wales and Minister for Western Sydney, the honorable Prue Car alongside City of Penrith Councillor Todd Carney, and members of the local community. A special thank you to Elder Uncle Robert Greg Simms and his family from the Darug Community for delivering a meaningful Welcome to Country for our store. Here’s to strengthening our connection with communities across Sydney’s west!

Here at Kmart, we’re committed to ensuring that every team member can bring their true self to work. Last week, we celebrated Wear it Purple Day, standing in solidarity with LGBTQIA+ youth as we work to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for everyone. This year’s theme, 'Your Passion, Your Pride,' inspires us to continue our efforts in making Kmart a place where everyone feels valued. With our Welcome Here program across over 60 stores, we’re taking meaningful steps to support our LGBTQIA+ team members. #WearItPurple

In 2023, we ordered nearly 300,000 uniform units – and we’re committed to ensuring these don’t go to waste. That’s why we’re pleased to have partnered with UPPAREL to keep thousands of these old uniform items out of landfill. ♻️🙌🚮 This new partnership offers a practical solution, allowing our team members in Australian Stores and Distribution Centres to recycle old uniforms and clothing at work from this week – sustainability is an ongoing journey for us, and this is just one small step on that journey.

This past week was one for the history books! For the first time ever, all our Kmart and Target Store Managers came together in the same room for our 2024 Store Managers Conference on the Sunshine Coast. With 450 of retail’s brightest store leaders in one place – it was the perfect opportunity for us to dive into the strategies that are shaping our future, including how we develop our operations, our people, and our customer experience to accelerate forward. It was an immersive three days filled with moments of fun and inspiration - from an incredible First Nations art activity with Bayley Mifsud to a tear-jerking keynote from big wave surf legend Mark Mathews, and plenty of moments for connection and celebration. As we continue on our journey accelerating forward, a heartfelt thanks goes out to all of our incredible Store Managers. Your dedication, leadership and passion are the driving forces behind our success, and with a team like this leading the way - the future looks bright.

We’re proud to be supporting Project Boomerang and the transition to a circular economy. The textile recycling plant in Carole Park, Queensland, will be the first of its kind in Australia and will use automated technology to sort and customise more textiles for recycling ♻️.

‘Project Boomerang funding sets Salvos Stores on course for a circular economy’❤️♻️ The Queensland Government is supporting Circular Economy infrastructure by funding Salvos Stores and The Salvation Army to establish a textile recycling plant in Carole Park, QLD. The plant will sort textiles, remove buttons and zippers, and customise end products for recycling. The plant will be Australia’s first automated textiles sorting and decontamination solution, replicating a plant which is currently in operation in Amsterdam. This initiative aims to reduce textile waste in landfills, promote a circular economy, and raise awareness about clothing waste's environmental impact. Supported by QUT’s feasibility research, the project involves collaborations with Charitable Recycling Australia and SE Queensland Local Governments, and aims to support sustainable practices in the fashion industry. Companies such as Kmart Group, Samsara Eco and Full Circle Fibres are also supportive as they look to develop local supply chains and markets for recycled textiles.
