The Spirit of Kakadu. An indigenous owned collection of tours and accommodation facilities in Kakadu National Park

About us

Kakadu Tourism is an indigenous owned collection of wetland cruises, 4WD adventure tours, cultural experiences and accommodation in UNESCO World Heritage Listed Kakadu National Park. It is the largest collection of facilities catering to tourism in Kakadu and is focused on positive indigenous outcomes. Most people come to Kakadu to experience its waterfalls, wetlands and indigenous culture, with Kakadu Tourism you can experience it all. Apart from our world-famous Mercure Kakadu Crocodile Resort and Cooinda Lodge Kakadu, we offer Yellow Water Cruises which operates several times a day, and have been awarded the 2012 Qantas Australian Tourism Award for Major Tour and/or Transport Operators. Our Kakadu Adventure Tours use a modern fleet of 4WD vehicles for all day off-road adventures to visit the waterfalls, swimming holes and escarpments of Kakadu. And the Warradjan Cultural Centre gives insights into the culture, history and the effects of white settlement of the Bininj people in interactive displays and exhibitions, and has an online Aboriginal Art Store: https://warradjanculturalcentre.com/

Looking for a little bit of luxury when you visit Kakadu? The Yellow Water Villas at Cooinda Lodge are the perfect option for you! Kakadu has introduced its most luxurious, eco-sensitive accommodation with the Yellow Water Villas in an exclusive area of Cooinda Lodge’s grounds, adjacent to the region’s most famous natural water habitat, Yellow Water Billabong (Ngurrungurrudjba). Nestled under a rich canopy of trees, each of the Yellow Water Villas balances luxury with a commitment to environmental sustainability. They are built on stilts to minimise impact on the land, as the preservation of country is a key priority of Murumburr Traditional Owners. Each air conditioned Villa offers a private bathtub on the large veranda, custom king-sized bed, ensuite bathroom, dining area and lounge area with daybeds.  The Yellow Water Villas are individually named after a native Indigenous animal of the Kakadu region, themed throughout with personal stories of the local Murumburr community – from the pillows to the interior decorations. vArtworks and decorations have been sourced from local Bininj (Aboriginal) artists as well as the famed Marrawuddi Art Gallery in Jabiru. These artworks share personal stories about the local Bininj community, their culture and their Dreamtime. They are part of the oldest living culture in the world, having coexisted harmoniously with these lands for over 65,000 years. Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) recently interviewed First Nations business owner Kylie-Lee Bradford  about her business 'Kakadu Organics' which we proudly use at both Cooinda Lodge and Mercure Kakadu Crocodile Hotel. As a young girl living on country, Kylie-Lee Bradford had a dream. ‘Growing up in Kakadu, we lived and breathed native ingredients,’ she says. ‘I wanted to start a business offering products made from wild harvested native foods.’ In 2014, the proud Murrumburr woman from Kakadu National Park made her dream come true. Native fruits and herbs feature in all of Kakadu Organics’ products. These include macadamia oil infused with lemon myrtle and wild lime, organic bush teas, dukkah, jams, chutneys, herbs and spices. Its skincare and wellness range uses Kakadu plum, known for its high vitamin C content. To read the view article, see the link in comments below.

Look at this handsome devil 🐊  You’ll get a fantastic view of these ancient species from the Aboriginal-run Yellow Water Cruise – which runs all year round from Cooinda Lodge. Once you’re aboard, the boat stops often for a better look at the many animals living in and on the wetlands, and for photo opportunities.  Get your camera ready 📸 This snap by @_farrier [IG]  During the tropical summer the crocodile population disperses as the wetlands flood, so it’s harder to see them. In the heat of the day they also tend to spend more time submerged so try heading out at sunset or sunrise.
