We're kickstarting conversations about respectful relationships on Kangaroo Island - and asking everyone to 'Pass it On'. Presented by Junction, 'Pass It On' - a community awareness and education initiative - will be held at Western Districts Sports and Community Club on Sunday, November 24. It will include a presentation from Power Community Ltd, the not-for-profit charity arm of Port Adelaide FC, as part of the organisation’s Respectful Relationships program which aims to promote gender equality and stamp out gender-based abuse. 'Pass It On' has been made possible through funding from the State Government through the Attorney-General’s Department. Junction’s long-standing commitment to delivering quality, secure and affordable housing through strong and collaborative partnerships is unwavering. Indeed, partnerships between Federal and State Governments, Community Housing Providers (CHPs) and the private sector are key to alleviating housing stress and creating sustainable opportunities into the future. The first round of the Housing Australia Future Fund (HAFF), announced this week, is a very significant and welcome step forward in addressing the housing crisis. This initial round will see around 13,700 social and affordable homes built across the country underpinned by a $9.2 billion investment. Around 20,000 new social homes and 10,000 new affordable homes will be delivered through HAFF across Australia over a five-year-period.

This week (8–14 September) is Foster and Kinship Carer Week, a time to recognise and celebrate our amazing foster carers who are helping shape the futures of the children and young people in their care. This year, through our 'Foster a Future' campaign, we’re emphasising the profound impact a stable, loving, and caring family environment can have on young people’s lives—and on those who become their carers. Junction’s Head of Impact, Dr Alisa Willis, says this is a “call out” to people who have been thinking about becoming a foster carer as well as those who might not have previously considered fostering. “There is no doubt, taking on the role of a foster carer comes with challenges but also, the potential for life-changing reward and impact," she said. "Through this campaign we take a snapshot of the simple things to show how becoming a foster or kinship carer can, and frequently does, change many lives for the better." “Having the love and stability of a secure foster care placement can go a long way to helping children and young people, many who have been through significant trauma, heal and ultimately, live their best life.” Regardless of your race, religion, gender identity, sexuality, or relationship status, if you can provide a safe and stable home for a young person, you can become a Junction Foster Carer. Congratulations to our dedicated team for bringing this project to life. This program highlights the importance of lived experience and co-design in creating effective support. The program is guided by young parents' experiences, ensuring that services meet their needs. As it evolves through ongoing research and feedback, we focus on relationship-building and peer leadership. Since its inception, the program has supported 33 participants across four groups, with an additional 10 young parents waiting for the next intake. Congratulations also to all of today’s nominees and winners.
