🎁 Free Download: An Enabling Infrastructure Checklist for Place Activation At JOC Consulting, we've been working on place activation projects for 10+ years! The pop-up ping pong battles at Green Square, the gold painted bodybuilders of Bondi Junction, the temporary seating and artwork for the Sydney Light Rail, the buskers and lantern walk that made Wingham sing… are just some of our favourite projects over the past decade. We’re now focusing more on the planning and strategy side of place activation, that leverages our practical experience to ensure great outcomes for the community and local businesses. We believe that early consideration for the needs of place activation in the design of public spaces is key to good governance and self-sustaining activity. As part of our 10 year celebrations, we’re offering our Checklist to help others plan and design spaces that are functional, inclusive, and full of life 🎸🎨🎉 Want a free copy to add to your toolbox? Just DM us or email [email protected], and we'll send it your way! Keen to also hear what others have found with the planning and delivery of place activation. To those just starting out - What would you like to know? And for those with a bit more experience – What do you think is needed or is often overlooked in the early planning and design stages? Any tricks or tips to share? #PlaceActivation #UrbanDesign #PublicSpaces #PlaceMaking #Events #Design #Planning #TownPlanning #EconomicDevelopment #CommunityDevelopment #JOCConsulting

Well, that was fun! Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate with us last week at Bangarra Dance Theatre. It’s been 10 incredible years at JOC Consulting and your support and collaboration have been essential to our journey. As John O'Callaghan and Jordan Kelly mentioned on the night, we're moving into an exciting decade of strategic possibilities and are more convinced than ever that strategy and engagement aren’t going anywhere – here's four reasons why: - The next 10 years are going to be massive for strategy as we respond to changing environments, the cost of living, social cohesion, place-making, the night-time economy, and more. - Ai is going to make things interesting. But JOC is embracing it to ensure we grow with the tech, instead of the tech outgrowing us. - Engagement will continue to be more human. We’ve seen tech come into the engagement space, but face-to-face activities are in demand more than ever. - We see three big areas of growth: engagement with youth, engagement with women and gender-diverse people, and listening and learning from First Nations communities. We are always up for a chat so please reach out if you’d like to catch up for a coffee with the JOC team. And in the meantime, check out some of our more recent projects at www.jocconsulting.com.au Thanks again to our clients and collaborators for all the support over the years! Here's to the next decade of innovation, collaboration, and creating places that matter. ~ The JOC team Ruth Carnac, Sophie Stockman, Eloise Reddy, Georgina Stortenbeker, Priyanka Bhattacharya, Michael Glover, Mayuko K. Do you have a story to tell? Want to connect with creative, like-minded people? Or simply keen to learn more about trauma-informed practice for our built environment? Let me know by expressing your interest to join a community of praxis* here! https://lnkd.in/dSB4snHy Over the coming months, I’ll be facilitating a series of online dynamic discussions about trauma-informed placemaking. This is an open invitation to anyone and everyone working as a practitioner, in government, or in community across Australia and beyond—especially to those practicing outside or along the edges of the built environment. Change happens along these edges, and I’m excited to see how this transdisciplinary praxis evolves to create meaningful work and practical outcomes for our industry. Please fill out your contact details in the form if you would like to be involved. Alternatively, DM me or email [email protected]. I look forward to exchanging ideas with this wonderful network soon! *What is praxis? Praxis is the reflection and application of knowledge into practice.

We are thrilled to announce that JOC Consulting Urban and Cultural Planner, Eloise Reddy, has won the prestigious National Award for Planning Excellence for Tertiary Student Project – with a unanimous endorsement from the judges. Eloise's thesis, "Artidote: The Public Art of Healing," has been recognised by the Planning Institute of Australia for its exemplary contribution to the industry, highlighting the significance of trauma-informed placemaking in shaping the future of our cities. Her fresh perspective demonstrates the transformative power of integrating community participation, site responsiveness, and transdisciplinary collaboration into urban planning practices. We are enormously proud of Eloise for this achievement and very grateful to have her as part of the JOC team working on cultural projects across Hawkesbury, Parramatta and Campsie.
