This is one of our favourite posts to make every year! We’re so pleased to announce the recipients of our 2024 Jemena Community Grants. These organisations are doing such great work in their local communities – from running food assistance programs, to financial counselling programs, to providing clothing for kids entering emergency foster care. This year we provided 12 grants, totalling $150,000, with a focus on activities and initiatives that support people in our communities experiencing disadvantage. Since we started our grants program in 2019, we’ve supported 78 groups in the areas where we operate to do amazing work in their communities. Australia’s biomethane sector has taken another significant step forward. Jemena and Melbourne-based biogas developer, Valorify have signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to work together to develop biomethane production in regional NSW. As part of the MOU Jemena will assess the feasibility of injecting biomethane produced by Valorify into the New South Wales gas distribution network – which is currently connected to over 1.5 million homes and businesses. You can read more about the agreement here: https://ow.ly/OmjV50TlFst #renewableenergy #MOU #hydrogen #renewablegas

One of the core aims of our business is to keep our people safe, both physically and psychologically. With this front of mind, we’re recognising R U OK? Day on Thursday 12 September with morning teas at our North Sydney and Melbourne offices, and other depots across our operational areas. In addition, to help foster these important conversations about mental health and wellbeing, last week we heard from Hugo Toovey, an Australian Army Captain, Founder of 25 STAY ALIVE and two-time cancer survivor who shared his personal story and highlighted the emotional toll of neglecting mental health during physical health battles. Important stuff. While this day is R U OK?’s National Day of Action, this year’s theme encourages us to ‘Ask R U OK? Any Day of the Year’ because a conversation could change a life. You can learn more about R U OK? Day and access free resources to help you have a conversation at www.ruok.org.au. #RUOKDay2024

Did you know: Biomethane can be derived from a range of sources including waste water and agricultural waste and is 100% compatible with the existing gas network, appliances and industrial processes. In an Australian first, Jemena’s Malabar Biomethane Injection Plant is taking what Sydneysiders flush and turning it into energy, more specifically biomethane, which can be injected into Sydney’s gas network. Jemena recently showed Nine News Sydney around the Plant and highlighted how renewable gas is helping homes and businesses. Joining us on the tour was Valorify who announced details of their plan to develop biomethane production plants in regional New South Wales. Also joining us was Brickworks Building Products who explained how renewable gases, like biomethane, are helping heavy industries reduce their emissions. These industries produce many of the products we use every day including bricks, windows, fertilisers, glass, and medicine – while also providing jobs to thousands of Australians. Jemena Electricity Network’s People’s Panel and representatives from our Customer Voice Groups, met together for the first time at a recall day on Saturday 31 August. It was a chance for the group to reconnect with each other and Jemena and meet other customers whilst reflecting on the recently published Draft Plan. Participants were greeted with a Welcome to Country by Daneil Ross, Wurundjeri man and were given the opportunity to learn more about the indigenous artwork commissioned for Jemena Electricity Networks by Simone Thomson, a proud Wurundjeri and Yorta-Yorta woman. Matthew Serpell, Project Director, then stepped through the Draft Plan and how customers’ inputs have influenced the proposal. The group had the opportunity to ask questions and dive deeper into topics including; revenue requirements, opex, capex, incentives and network resilience. Great to see our Engagement Lead at Jemena Gas Networks, Merryn Spencer, speaking at the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) Australasia Conference recently. Merryn shared key learnings from our in-depth customer engagement program in an interactive session. In the context of the energy transition, Merryn examined how research can be applied to hear from a broader range of customers and how it can be used to involve and engage observers and stakeholders. Over the last few years at Jemena, we have worked hard to embed great engagement practice across the board. We recently submitted our Gas Networks’ 2025 Services and Pricing Plan to the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) for their review and endorsement. To develop the plan we spent hundreds of hours engaging with our customers in a range of face-to-face and online forums. Participating in the IAP2 Conference was a great opportunity to reflect on this engagement program and how it contributes to the broader industry 👏 #IAP2AConference #Engagement #Energy #Customers
