Coaching can inspire significant professional and personal growth, Mandy Geddes ACC, PIECL, our Director of Coach Education, shares some expert insights to guide you on your coaching journey: 💡 Get Clear on Your Goals - Know your "why" behind coaching, whether for personal growth or helping others. 💡 Keep Practicing - Each coaching session is an opportunity to learn and grow. Remember, progress over perfection leads to mastery. 💡Pick the Right Training - Quality matters. The Institute of Executive Coaching and Leadership (IECL) programs prepare you to tackle real and complex challenges. Do you have a coaching question? Drop them in the comments below 👇
Director, Coach Education, IECL (Institute of Executive Coaching & Leadership), accredited & credentialed org coach, oversee coach education; we educate confident, competent org coaches. Join the world class with IECL!
As an organisational coach and Director of Coach Education at Institute of Executive Coaching and Leadership (IECL), I'm frequently asked to share my insights on coaching. Here are my top three tips for advancing in your professional journey using coaching skills: 1. Clarify Your Coaching Goals: Reflect on why you want to become a coach or adopt a coaching approach. Are you drawn to life, career, or executive coaching? The kind of clients and work you envisage can shape your training and ongoing professional growth. Coaching skills can help you get great results with your team or clients; some outcomes I personally have seen include a senior leader in finance who used the coaching as a valued (and confidential) sounding board at a time of career crossroads, and an entrepreneur who was able to identify their next steps in business development and promotion. Identifying the kind of work you want to do may influence what you do next in terms of training (or your professional development if you're already coaching). 2. Practice Makes Progress: Each stage of coach education is a stepping stone which, coupled with continuous practice, moves you forward as a coach. Every coaching session brings a new learning experience, and with each client you expand your competence and confidence. As my colleague Jill Livesey, Executive Coach says, "As a coach, you're never bored, and never complacent!" 3. Choose Reputable Training: Quality matters. Look for an International Coaching Federation accredited program and, if your goal is to coach in complex environments like organisations, seek specialised training. At IECL, we offer top-tier organisational coaching programs designed to help you navigate the complex landscape of organisations today. Remember, the learning never stops. Coaching is a journey of ongoing growth, both for the coach and their clients. And if you have a question about coaching please do ask me in the comments below! Do you need Team Coaching or Group Coaching? In our latest newsletter from Charity Becker IECL’s Head of Coaching & Leader Development, Charity explores the difference between the two. Many coaches aspire to explore team coaching, often without realising that it requires a distinct skill set compared to group coaching or facilitation. While the competencies developed in individual coaching provide a strong foundation for group coaching, team coaching is a fundamentally different role that demands specialised capabilities and approaches. If your organisation is full of 'teams' with high performing individuals who are delivering on their goals but missing out on the enormous potential of effective collaboration, team coaching might be the answer to unlocking the untapped collective potential. Both approaches offer tremendous value, but understanding the distinction is key to achieving your desired outcomes. Read our latest newsletter to understand how they differ. Have you experienced Team Coaching or Group Coaching? We'd love to hear your thoughts! 👇

"From enhancing my authenticity to embracing the complexity of coaching, this experience has not only deepened my understanding but also inspired me to evolve as a coach." Mark Morris After completing Level 2 Executive Coaching Course with the Institute of Executive Coaching and Leadership (IECL), Mark shared his top 5 reflections from his training experience: 💡 The Power of Authenticity "Bringing my authentic self into coaching sessions, balancing personal input while ensuring the focus remains on the client's journey, was paramount." 💡 Depth Beyond the 'What' "The Level 2 course shifted focus from just the tactical "what" in coaching to the deeper "who" and "why," encouraging us as coaches to explore underlying motivations. needs and meaning." 💡Tailored Coaching Approach Mark highlights that "every client and session is unique, requiring a flexible, non-one-size-fits-all approach. This makes coaching more challenging, but also more rewarding." 💡Learning from Peers One of the most valuable aspects for Mark was the high calibre of his fellow participants. "Their diverse skills and experiences provided invaluable learning and inspiration." 💡The Complexity of Coaching "Coaching, much like parenting, is highly complex." Mark emphasised that great coaching is about asking the right questions, in the right way, with the right tone—tailored to each individual situation. Thank you, Mark - your insights highlight that coaching development is individual and we all need to focus on being "human" - authentic, adaptive, and complex - within our own coaching practice.
