I've waited a long time to say this. Every time I logged into Hatchery, my eyes anguished at this sidebar misalignment. It's been hard on the heart. Well, we've gone and sorted that now. I vacillate in how I think about defensibility in the early-stage. Last week, Hatchery posted about the release of our Writing Assistant (https://lnkd.in/gc99VJbi). What I did not mention, however, was that we struck a deal to develop this for a tutoring service (a category leader in its space). We umm-ed and ahh-ed on building the thing in the first instance. It was not a core product hook, it'd be a small imposition on our roadmap, and it did not seem wholly defensible. Doesvalueaccruetotheapplicationorfoundationlayerandshouldweevendothis? We ended up doing the thing. Yesterday, we received this lovely piece of feedback from one of their lead academics [PII redacted]. I'm not sure exactly the point I'm making here, except to say "to hell with defensibility (sort of)". Sometimes building good and useful things is - shock - good and useful, even if the moat isn't imminently apparent.
