Redefining the economics of green hydrogen.
About us
Our mission is to accelerate the world’s shift away from fossil fuels to green hydrogen by delivering the world’s best electrolyser. Hysata is developing a new type of hydrogen electrolyser. Our technology has the potential to significantly shift the economics of green hydrogen production, bringing $2/kg green hydrogen within reach, and accelerating the global transition to net zero emissions. Electrolysers use electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen, and are the key technology for producing green hydrogen. Green hydrogen is widely acknowledged to be a crucial part of reaching net zero emissions globally, with the potential to meet up to 20% of energy demand in a net zero global economy. The Hysata electrolyser is based on breakthrough Australian technology developed by a team from the University of Wollongong’s ARC Centre of Excellence for Electromaterials Science, led by chemical catalysis and characterisation expert Professor Gerry Swiegers. We officially launched in June 2021, with $5 million in seed funding led by IP Group, with support from the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC).

Meet Kasper T. Therkildsen, Engineering Director at Hysata. With 15 years of engineering experience across clean energy and electrolysis, Kasper has quickly become a valuable source of knowledge for all our engineers. "I'm excited about scaling a unique technology that will help our customers transform the energy system into a greener version and make an impact on climate change," he shares. What motivates Kasper about electrolysers? "I believe we have to improve technology to a point where it no longer makes sense to pursue fossil energy," Kasper explains. "Renewables like solar and wind have successfully reduced electricity costs below that of fossil alternatives in many parts of the world. Now, our job is to do the same with molecules, starting with hydrogen. Reducing green hydrogen costs is key to unlocking the production of other green molecules like methanol, ammonia, and sustainable aviation fuel." In his short time at Hysata, Kasper has been impressed by the team's dedication. "I really appreciate the dedication I've seen from my colleagues and how that translates into cells, stacks, and systems routinely operating with a truly unique efficiency just above the thermoneutral potential." As a leader, Kasper's superpower lies in his ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and help them grow. We're proud to have Kasper contributing his extensive experience and passion to building the world’s best electrolyser. Welcome aboard! #GreenHydrogen #EfficiencyWins

Grateful to have a few days with the Hysata Board last week in Port Kembla! Following the success of our Series B funding round, our leadership team took the opportunity to update the board on our commercialisation progress and talk further about our scale up strategy for 2025. Our board has a wealth of knowledge from experts across infrastructure and climate tech, energy, resources and the finance sector. Always valuable to receive their input into our plans and hear their broader insights into the green hydrogen industry, decarbonisation of the hard to abate sectors and their key priorities for the year ahead. And of course, with Hysata culture at the heart of everything we do – we always make time for some team building! Last time it was lawn bowls, and this time we tested the board’s artistic flair! We’ll share more on these masterpieces soon. Thank you to the Hysata board for your ongoing support - Dean Dalla Valle Mike Molinari IP Group plc Robert Trezona Kiko Ventures Blair Pritchard Alex Oppes Virescent Ventures Jared Balavender Vestas Nick Kendall bp Alfred Wong Templewater. #GreenHydrogen #EfficiencyWins

Yesterday we welcomed Assistant Minister for Trade and a Future Made in Australia Senator the Hon Tim Ayres to Port Kembla. Hysata CEO Paul Barrett gave Senator Ayres a tour of our manufacturing facility and stepped through our plan to build high-efficiency electrolysers in the Illawarra. The Senator was impressed with the progress we have made since his last visit in June. As an Australian electrolyser company commercialising critical climate technology and building technical capability in the Illawarra, we can kickstart a new, Australian-made green manufacturing value chain. As highlighted in our senate submission, we believe Australian Governments will need to work in lockstep with Australian companies to keep pace with the rest of the world. A Future Made in Australia means supporting local innovation to accelerate the global transition to net zero. Hysata looks forward to continue working with Senator Ayres as the Australian Government progresses this important policy. #GreenHydrogen #EfficiencyWins

We have a busy week ahead with the Hysata board in town so it was a perfect warm up to welcome IP Group plc to our Port Kembla facility last Friday! IP Group Chief Executive Officer Greg Smith and Managing Director IP Group Australia Mike Molinari were given a tour by Paul Barrett to see our commercialisation progress. For UK-based Greg, the last time he was here it was an empty site, so it was a great opportunity to showcase our staff, labs, and equipment for our high efficiency electrolyser. The team enjoyed hearing from both Greg and Mike about the importance of team culture, how impressed they are with our progress, and the strong culture we have built in a short amount of time. And what would be a visit to HQ without the gifting of an Aussie Hysata shirt to Greg and lucky for us, a reciprocated gift for our team - the British version of Tim-Tams, Penguins! #GreenHydrogen #EfficiencyWins

Our team is the driving force behind our green hydrogen technology. Each day, they are hard at work developing the world’s most advanced electrolyser systems, pushing the boundaries of what is possible and striving to accelerate decarbonisation of the hard to abate sectors. But living a ‘Hy-Life’ is as much about taking a moment to enjoy our incredible beach-front location, as it is about the cutting-edge technology and hard work. Case in point – Tim and Dan preparing to BBQ some freshly caught lobster just footsteps away from our electrolyser manufacturing facility in Port Kembla. Keeping with our values, there was some serious team work and collaboration at play here! #GreenHydrogen #EfficiencyWins
