About us

HESTA is the industry super fund for health and community services. Since 1987, HESTA has grown to become the largest super fund dedicated to this sector. HESTA has a history of strong, long-term returns. We aim to keep fees and costs competitive. We're also committed to providing outstanding member benefits, and helping members take control of their future with quality education and advice about super. The Board is made up of representatives from the industry’s employer and employee organisations. This helps us to make sure we continue to provide super education and advice services that are relevant to our members' particular needs.     We had the opportunity to speak with Doris Tidd, HESTA's General Manager of Information Security, to hear her perspectives on the dynamic landscape of cybersecurity within the superannuation sector. Doris oversees HESTA's information, cyber, and data security, managing the protection of critical and sensitive data and online security risks. “At HESTA, we take the protection of our members' personal and financial information very seriously, Super is one of your biggest investments, that’s why we’re working hard to keep your super safe.” With over two decades of experience in information and cyber security, Doris has helped organisations across critical infrastructure and financial services build and evolve their security capability. With expertise in security risk management, identity and access management, application security, security operations, security strategy and transformation, she has a proven track record in leading information security functions, enhancing security awareness, and helping build cyber resilient organisations. Given the rapidly evolving cyber landscape, out of all the valuable lessons from her career journey, Doris emphasises the importance of continually learning about cybersecurity, staying informed of emerging cyber threats, and the latest ways to protect our information. “The super ecosystem is complex, relying on a range of stakeholders to all work together to deliver the member experience and protect the super savings of all Australians.     HESTA welcomes today’s introduction of the Paid Parental Leave Amendment (Adding Superannuation for a More Secure Retirement) Bill 2024 into Parliament. For more than 13 years, HESTA - along with many other sector voices - tirelessly advocated for this important equity measure. In March, we welcomed the Federal Government’s announcement that super will be paid on the Commonwealth Parental Leave Pay Scheme, which will boost women’s retirement savings and help close the gender super gap. More than 80% of our 1 million plus members are women, many of whom work in typically lower paid industries such as aged care or early childhood education. Paying super on paid parental leave is a key equity measure that will help our members add much-needed dollars to their retirement accounts and help make Australia’s super system fairer for everyone.     In a year that saw challenging conditions for global financial markets, HESTA is proud to deliver a year of strong returns for members. For our members in accumulation, our MySuper Balanced Growth option, where the majority of our members are invested, achieved an annual return of 9.10% for the 2023-24 financial year. According to SuperRatings , it remains in the SuperRatings SR50 Balanced (60-76) Index top 10 amongst its peers over 3, 5, 7, and 10 years. HESTA’s High Growth option achieved 11.91% for the 2023-24 financial year, an outstanding top-five SuperRatings result, and maintaining its top-five position against peers over the 10-year period. Our Sustainable Growth Option delivered 6.98% over the financial year return and remains first in its SuperRatings peer group over the 10-year period. Our Conservative option delivered 5.44% returns for the financial year, sustaining its top five performance amongst its 10-year peer group. The Indexed Balanced Growth option’s 1-year return for the financial year of 11.86% ranked sixth amongst SuperRatings’ Balanced Indexed options. This option commenced 1 October 2020, and continues its top quartile performance amongst Balanced (60-76) peers since inception. For our retired members, our Income Stream Balanced Growth option also delivered a strong return of 10.16% for the financial year while our Income Stream Conservative option delivered 6.03%. Both options are outperforming their median peers over the 3, 5 and 10-year periods. Our strong returns and high rankings across our investment options relative to our peers shows that HESTA remains a leading fund which has generated ambitious investment returns over the long run for our valued HESTA members.     We hosted CEDA - Committee for Economic Development of Australia Power Start Breakfast Briefings at HESTA this week, bringing leaders, mentees, and rising stars together for networking and discussions on policy and business best practices. The Hon. Natalie Hutchins MP, Minister for Jobs and Industry; Treaty and First Peoples; and Women discussed priorities of the Victorian Government’s Our Equal State strategy, which include halving the State’s pay gap, achieving gender parity in senior government roles, and doubling the number of men taking paid parental leave within five years. HESTA advocates for gender equality and celebrates the inclusion of superannuation in paid parental leave from 2025, following 13 years of our advocacy along with others. This will help narrow the gender super gap, benefiting our members and women across Australia. Aligned with the Our Equal State strategy, HESTA is committed to: -Addressing gender gaps in leadership through 40:40 Vision. -Tackling workplace violence against women, including our engagement with the mining sector on sexual harassment. -Collaborating with investors for gender equality and cultural change.     Looking for an innovative and hands-on internship experience? One that connects you with leading industry professionals and offers the opportunity to learn, grow, and demonstrate your potential. Commencing in late November, early December 2024, our Investment Internship program is an opportunity to gain real world experience in an investment team and develop both technical and business skills at a top-performing industry super fund working for real-world impact. Running for 12-16 weeks full-time (with part-time options considered), successful participants will work on exciting projects across our Investment Management and Investment Execution teams. Throughout the program, interns will receive regular coaching and support from managers and other experienced mentors.     Research commissioned by Super Members Council shows 76% of Australians believe super is important to their future financial well-being, yet many still don’t have a great understanding of the basics of super. The good news is that the research also found that those who better understand super are more likely to engage with their savings and are happier with their financial decisions. That’s why at HESTA, we're dedicated to supporting our members to plan for their financial futures with confidence. We provide our members access to a variety of resources to enhance their understanding of super. From self-service online options, assistance through our help and chatbot services, super education and advice available directly in workplaces, engaging information sessions and seminars, as well as specialised personal support from our experienced advisers. Over 200,000 members have already benefited from Future Planner, our innovative online tool designed to help explore how different actions—such as increasing contributions, changing investment options, or adjusting retirement dates—can impact retirement outcomes.
