Leading international design practice with studios in Australia, Asia, the UK, and US.
About us
We are a leading international design practice with studios in Australia, China, South East Asia, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. Our vision is to design the world's best places - places people love. Our design values are shared globally across all our studios, by the talented people who work in them: architects, interior designers, landscape architects, urban designers, planners and specialist consultants. We work across a broad range of scales, from the interior design of a boutique retail store through to major public architecture and strategic urban planning for cities. And we work together in integrated design teams because they produce the best outcomes for our clients. Our focus is on people and how we create better, more meaningful experiences for them. We do that through creative, holistic thinking, a deep knowledge base and a rigorous design process. We judge the success of the buildings and places we design by the way people use and enjoy them - the clients who commission them, the people who inhabit them. An ever-changing, biodiverse landscape curated as a year of wonder, our design for Laak Boorndap — an immersive 18,000-square-metre urban garden as part of the Victorian Government’s Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation — will be made up of a diverse mix of local Victorian, Australian and international plant species. Partnering with New York’s SO – IL, world-renowned horticulturalists Nigel Dunnett and James Hitchmough, and plant expert Jac Semmler of Super Bloom | Plant Practice , Laak Boorndap marks a bold and unique approach to naturalistic, planting that focuses on climate resilience. 🔗 Discover more: https://lnkd.in/gTpWhf4Q 🖼 Imagery by Darcstudio #LandscapeDesign #MelbourneArtsPrecinct #ClimateResilience #UrbanGarden

Are meeting rooms in your workplace in high demand? This year’s Workplace Futures Survey, The Big Calm, reveals that as workplace patterns stabilise, many employees are struggling with outdated spaces. With a growing preference for quiet areas to focus or collaborate, meeting rooms are increasingly being used to fill the gaps left by offices over-optimised on open plan. Addressing these shortages can directly boost worker satisfaction levels by up to 24 percent – an opportunity for companies looking to improve productivity. Fortunately, some workplaces are already making changes, with new meeting rooms being the second most common update. It’s time to rethink how we configure workplaces, ensuring they support both collaboration and concentration. 🔗 Learn more about what workers want from their workplace, and how yours stacks up: https://lnkd.in/gPNdz-X9 📷 Photography by Earl Carter #Hassell #OfficeDesign #TheBigCalm #WorkplaceFutures #PlacesPeopleLove

Watch how our unique 3-D-printed earth design for a community building in Hope Village, Tanzania will come to life. A Hassell collaboration with charity foundation One Heart Foundation, structural engineers Eckersley O'Callaghan and the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) in Barcelona, Spain, the building forms the heart of a master plan for Hope Village in Kibaha, western Tanzania, which aims to provide housing, education and skills training to vulnerable young girls. 🔗 Learn more about our sustainable community building in Hope Village, Tanzania: https://lnkd.in/gFZqpRW6 📹 Video by Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia and Jaime Weston #CommunityBuilding #Tanzania #SustainableDesign #3DPrintedEarth #SocialValue

Designed with a warm, generous spirit, The Square — the new food and beverage precinct within Melbourne Airport’s Terminal 1 (T1) on Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Country, Australia puts the traveller experience at its heart. "Our strategy was to craft a space that radiates warmth and tranquillity amid the bustling airport atmosphere,” says Principal Dan Cox. “Embracing locally sourced materials and locally designed furniture, we seamlessly blended this scheme with the existing terminal. New elements, such as reflective and illuminated ceilings, enhance views to the runway and intuitively guide passengers to the gates." 🔗 Explore more on our design for The Square at Melbourne Airport: https://lnkd.in/grDGW6zh 📷 Photography by Earl Carter #MelbourneAirportTerminal1 #InteriorDesign #AirportDesign #AirportFood #MelbourneAirport #MelbourneDesign

Sydney Metro Western Sydney Airport represents a new chapter in the evolution of the Western Sydney Aerotropolis, where history, culture, and transport infrastructure intersect. Led by First Nations narratives from the Wianamatta region, this project began with a deep, research-led engagement with Country and its communities’ stories. Our design narrative, 'Carved Earth connected to Big Sky,' reflects the landscapes of the Cumberland Plain and has informed every aspect of the design process. Hassell is leading the design of this 23-kilometre native landscape rail corridor, encompassing six new stations and precincts, and a maintenance and operations facility. Working for Parklife Metro Consortium, composed of Plenary Group, Webuild, RATP Dev and Siemens Mobility, together with key design partners, we are committed to creating infrastructure that respects Country and sets a new standard for the future of Sydney’s transport networks. This project is a testament to how thoughtful design can respect the past while paving the way for a vibrant, dynamic future for Sydney’s third city. 🔗 Read more about our design for Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport: https://lnkd.in/gYZvKtDb #Hassell #CountryLedDesign #Aerotropolis #SydneyMetro #PlacesPeopleLove Djinjama

The Michael Kirby Building at Macquarie University’s Wallumattagal Campus on Dharug Country, Sydney, tells a story of sustainable adaptation and growth. Our design team transformed a 1985 administration centre by adapting an existing concrete structure into a larger, more flexible four-storey building. The new design features a lighter timber-framed structure and a glazed façade. A naturally ventilated, top-lit atrium was also added by repurposing a previously underutilised external courtyard. Our expansive, transparent design features a variety of new light-filled spaces that provide flexibility for workplace, research, and teaching and allow adaptability for future changes. Optimising its prominent position on the major thoroughfare of Wally’s Walk, the upcycled Michael Kirby Building connects its interior to a well-established external tree canopy and surrounding public spaces, creating a new focus for the campus. 🔗 Learn more about Macquarie University’s Michael Kirby Building: https://lnkd.in/gQqmpvp7 📷 Photography by Nicole England #AdaptiveReuse #Architecture #Sydney #University #AustralianArchitecture #MyMQ #EducationDesign
