Training dogs to change lives

About us

Guide Dogs Tasmania is the only organisation to raise and train puppies in Tasmania for Tasmanians. We exist to enhance the quality of life for those who are living with disability, by assisting in their achievement of independence. It takes over two years and costs more than $50,000 to train a Guide or Assistance Dog. Guide Dogs Tasmania relies on the support of the community to provide these life changing services to Tasmanians living with low vision, disability and illness.

🐾Paws Your Scrolling - It's not too late to Donate! 🐾 Can you help us breed more dogs like Sarabi? Jodie lives with Usher Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder which is causing gradual vision loss, along with hearing loss. Jodie has been distraught worrying about what life would look like when her Guide Dog Iris would retire. She would then be dependent on her family. A whole year Jodie struggled without a dog and then a call from Guide Dog instructor, Sean, to say he had the paw-fect girl for her! And in walked Sarabi! We must ensure we have a sustainable supply of intelligent and highly trained dogs today, and for Tasmanians like Jodie, who have low or no vision, disability or illness. Your donation today, will help change a life tomorrow! https://brnw.ch/21wL0Da

Today we'd like to reassure our community and reaffirm our ongoing commitment to transparency, integrity, and the highest standard of service delivery. We remain dedicated to delivering high-quality and compliant services to our clients. Our clients place their trust in us, and as a diligent NDIS service provider, we fully support this NDIS audit process. The Garden of Memories in North Hobart is a small park dedicated to the lifelong service of Guide Dogs that have passed away. It’s a place for reflection and contemplation and has been designed with contrasting materials for people who have low or no vision and planted out with beautifully scented plants like the long flowering daphne eternal fragrance and pineapple sage. A weeping camellia has been planted for movement and shape, and daffodils and jonquils are just starting to show their faces. If you have time drop by the Garden of Memories. It’s a lovely little nook and the parks team at the City of Hobart have done a sensational job sprucing it up. Every year 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐃𝐨𝐠 𝐃𝐚𝐲 🐾 provides an opportunity for us to acknowledge the incredible impact Guide Dogs have on the lives of those living with low or no vision. This special day raises awareness about Guide Dog accessibility and celebrates the unique and powerful bond between a Guide Dog and their human companions. In addition to a very special celebratory event for ticket holders at Frida's Sip n' Paint - Launceston, billboards across Tasmania will boldly reinforce the message that Guide Dogs Can Go Anywhere their handlers go. The Hobart City Council will display Guide Dogs Tasmania flags, and as night falls, iconic buildings across the city will illuminate the skyline in vibrant orange to honour these remarkable canines on International Guide Dog Day. We have also joined forces with the wonderful team at Peppers Silo Hotel who will be hosting a training demonstration including blind folded walks and helping us to advocate for inclusivity, raising awareness of the challenges faced by Guide Dog Handlers in the hospitality industry. Show your support and donate today. All funds raised will support the breeding, training, raising, and matching of more Guide Dogs to Tasmanians in need. https://lnkd.in/g55PPFER
